Although locals this was our first time at JFC, our son visiting from overseas was a great excuse. We loved the relaxed vibe of the place, the friendly attentive staff & of course the seafood was delicious. A bonus was being able to watch a Cricket T20 game in the back room while enjoying our meal & drinks.

This restaurant is a treasure! Great fish dishes, efficient and friendly service, wonderful atmosphere. We sat outside, and that was lovely. The garden's lush vegetation and the beach across the road contributed to making this the perfect spot for a very pleasant evening out. The fish chowder, mussel fritters and fish and chips are the best!

On the Paihia waterfront this large historic Villa is a relaxed spot to spend an evening. JFC may stand for “just fish and chips” but the menu is slightly more expansive than that with burgers and platters available. The food and service were both excellent and it was lovely having our meal served wrapped in paper just like old times. Indoor and outdoor seating options.

We had the seafood platter which was amazing and a lot of food for two hungry people. They’d run out of oysters but substituted delicious garlic prawns. Everything on the platter was good. No bookings taken but at 7:30pm on a Friday we had no issues being seated. Friendly service (self service in many ways). We would certainly go back.

Scallops were not so great as they came with more than just the scallop itself……
“The eggs” dont know What it is called.
The waitress said that it was stated in the menu, which I now see, was not true….
The garlic bread and fries were well tasting.
My husband’s butterfly shrimp were over fried….which meant they were difficult to get out of the Shell.
So we were both quite disappointed, as this was a seafood place
Hi MereteMadsen - we’re sorry we didn’t live up to your expectations. Not really sure what you mean but think you’re referring to some red onion and capsicum slices that were included on the skewer and not advised on the menu - fair point I guess - we don’t always put everything on the menu that we put on a dish - so, sorry about that. I don’t know what you’re referring to re eggs - maybe the roe on the scallops - we serve the whole scallop here in NZ. We get great reviews for our garlic butterfly prawns. Hard to eat? I hope you were using your fingers as that’s the best way to eat them - not a knife and fork! Cheers Chester and Louise
