Hi, Thanks for your review, and I am very glad to hear we are succeeding in providing a friendly and informative service. We do pride ourselves on our local knowledge and enjoy being able to provide our guests with trips and tour bookings along with some insiders tips on getting the best out of the "Bay". Thank you, Rochine.
Had a quick one night stop. We we given a programme of the events of the Waitangi celebrations upon arrival and a small carton of milk for tea and coffee. The room was clean and tidy with towels and shower gel nicely laid out.
Only downside was the temperature of the shower varied when in use.
Would visit again when in the area.
We had a fantastic stay at Aarangi Tui! Our greeting by the owners was very welcoming and they gave us great information on things to do in the area. What a great location this motel is, easy walk to restaurants, town and the wharf. We found our room very clean and great size for our family of four. I will be telling all my family and friends about the fantastic stay we had!
Lovely clean fresh motel. Very reasonably priced. Pleasant friendly hosts. Nice and close to shops. Received a cool welcome pack with heaps of goodies and discount vouchers which saved us lots of money.
Thanks for mentioning our welcome pack, we had lots of fun sourcing cool discounts and "free stuff" for our guests. We had one guest who saved over $50 with our vouchers for the Dolphin cruise and various restaurants around Paihia. Thanks again, Rochine
Fantastic location - close and flat walk to centre of town. Clean and tidy rooms.
Parking right outside our unit. Competitive rates. Not too flashy, more homely. Have stayed here a couple of times and will do again
I really wish I took pictures of this place b/c there aren't much photos on the internet on this place. The photos don't do it any justice, it's actually alot nicer than I thought.
Price: Comparable, the only reason why I rated them a 3 on Value is b/c I'm usually a budget traveller but to accomodate my travelling buddies I had to upgrade a bit, but the price they offered for the 1bdrm for 3 guests including a kitchenette was a good and comparable deal for what you got.
Location: Centrally located, it's on Williams Rd which is the town center, walk 2 small measly blocks and you're right were all the cafes, vendors, tour centers, bank, etc. Don't know who was complaining about the noise in the previous reviews but we were on the 1st corner unit facing the street and I slept on the futon right by the window, with it open, and there was no noise. The 2 blocks away from the town center kills the noise, and besides, it's Paihia, the town is quiet in general.
The Room: We had a 1bdrm, with a huge living room area with kitchenette and a fairly medium-big bathroom. The person complaining about the studio is crazy, it's a studio, that's why it's small and that's why you got a better deal. It's a no-frills, basic accomodation. We only paid a few extra NZD for the additional 3rd person where they provide extra linens/pillows/blankets/mattresspad for the futon that was already soft and comfy to begin with. The kitchenette had alot of supplies like plates and stuff, this makes this a great homebase where you can make some in-house meals to save a bit of money and store snacks. There's a fancy flatscreen with cable if you feel like staying in on a rainy day and just watch movies & TV. Even though I'm a budget traveller, I'm a stickler for cleanliness and this place is freakin' spotless. The bathroom was ridiculously clean which I loved. They offer free credit for WiFi and then you pay extra if you need more but I found the amount they initially give you was more than substantial to look up the basics and do quick email checks. They also have laundry facilities on-site but we did not use them.
The service: A nice lovely couple runs the place, they live right on the property. I did not deal with them too much b/c there were no problems but they seemed very nice. And they were flexible. We enjoyed Paihia so much that we extended our stay and it was as easy as just asking them if we could extend. The couple was approachable and by seeing how they maintain Aarangi Tui and they prices they offer, I can tell they are just good honest business people.
The only con I guess is if you're looking to party at the bars you have to either walk a bit or just drive down the street (3min max) b/c all the bars are on Kings Rd. But that's only if that's what you're looking for. Then at the same time, the night noise level will go up, you're further down from the main dock and town centre. So Kings Rd is where you would stay if you wanted budget accomodations. But we're early 30s working professionals, though we do like nightlife and libations, we liked having our homebase at Aarangi Tui and just walked down the street to Kings Rd.
I loved Paihia, and I would definately stay at Aarangi Tui again :)
