“A day trip around Napier”
Reviewed 1 April 2017

We took a 4 hour trip around Napier which included a stop at the Silky Oak Chocolate Company. This sounded good from what our coach driver told us. Not quite so. It must be the only chocolate company in the area and every coach goes there first until the wineries open. Anyone who wanted to taste the chocolate had to go into the one small tasting room and then have to get past the Dragon at the door. Only one piece of the milk and one of the dark each. She was heard to tell one woman that she had had her sample. Not a very good customer experience for us. We put back what we were buying and left as did others who were present.

We aim to please all our customers and love giving out samples of our chocolate. We have a large number of people that come through our doors.
Most people recognise that a 'sample' is a small offering of our products. Some customers feel that grabbing a handful of samples rather than the polite 'one of each' is acceptable.
We like to consider all people attending a tour, and try to provide samples to all attending. Our staff have this in mind when offering samples to our customers.

We are really pleased to see you enjoyed our chocolates. If you had told the staff you were wanting real chocolate, instead of powdered (our hot chocolate is powder and real mixed) then we would have offered you our extreme chocolate. This one is sooo thick that it requires a spoon to enjoy fully.
The reason for both is because our customers have different wants and needs

“An extra $2.50 to scramble my eggs!!!”
Reviewed 17 March 2017 via mobile

I couldn't believe it when I asked if my eggs could please be scrambled rather than poached or fried and after asking in the kitchen was told yes but it would be an extra $2.50!! Although quite tasty rather eXpensive and not very friendly service. Won't be returning!

Our scrambled eggs are made with love, an extra egg and cream. Hence the extra charge. Our customer service is normally second to none, so if you have a problem in the future could you please ask to speak with the manager.

“Nice setup, but not such special chocolate”
Reviewed 17 March 2017

Noting it's European origins on the wall, we expected more sophisticated-tasting chocolates, but while they were pretty and diverse, the chocolate wasn't so remarkable. Still, it was a fun stop with a small workroom, museum and cafe and would be nice lunch place especially for non-drinkers visiting Napier and surrounded by so much wine!!

Thank you for your comments, our chocolates centres are mainly traditional and suited to the palate of most New Zealanders. All of our centres are made here, unlike others where the centres are bought in and a flavor added. We hope to see you on your next visit to our region

“Chocolate Heaven”
Reviewed 12 March 2017

We went to Silky Oak on a tour from a cruise ship. The coach was met by a smiling lady with a tray full of chocolates for us to try - delicious. We then went in to the factory to be shown how the chocolates are made which was fascinating.

A visit to the chocolate museum followed where we found out that one Pope thought the chocolate drink so horrible he decreed it could be drunk during Lent!

There are several shops on the site, with a gift shop as well as the necessary chocolate shop. We bought chocolates that were not cheap, but were wonderful allowing us to relive the visit over several careful days! We did not go to the cafe, but understand from others on the trip that the food and drink there was excellent.

All in all a great stop on the tour - and we were given more chocolates as we left.

It sounds like you had a fantastic time all round, which is how it should be when on holiday. Which the memories were no doubt relived with each chocolate, heaven.
