Nice place to stay - spotlessly clean!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Apr 2015
Pania Lodge is a nice place to stay - basic but all that you will need. Spotlessly clean, spacious rooms and nice and quiet given it is on a main road. Really good value for money and well worth the stay!
Date of stay: April 2015
Room Tip: We had a rear unit and did not hear any of the main road traffic

Let me start with the positives: excellent bed with firm mattress, spacious motel room tastefully furnished, jug of milk in cold fridge. And now the negatives: the cutlery was cheap and nasty, the toilet paper was equally cheap and nasty ( and not a spare roll supplied!), the towels in the bathroom were thin and obviously bought on special somewhere...and there weren't enough anyway. The free wifi, rationed to 200 mb, was unreliable and totally frustrating. Furthermore, both husband and wife owners need urgent lessons in customer service. After all, they are in the service industry! A pleasant smile goes a long way. Like reviewer "A and MJ", I wouldn't stay here again either. Not recommended.

Your room was fully equipped with towelling for 2 people which was changed daily. If you required extra you had only to ask. Your complaint that the Wi-Fi was rationed to 200mb I can answer as follows: When I gave you the ticket you said it was more than enough for your needs. All our guests say the same. Extra tickets are free upon request. I will not dish out 1,000mb to someone who will only use 100mb to check emails. That makes no sense. Then you berate my wife, blaming us that the 200mb had run out. When I was able to point out that you had indeed used it all (mostly, by your own admission, facebook) not one word of apology from you. So you can understand my less than smiling face, given your attitude and the upset you caused my wife. As for customer service, for no charge whatsoever I gave your wife two items of quilting that she admired and wanted to show to her sewing circle. She thanked me, you mark us down for service. I was half expecting a poor review from the moment you arrived when you began slighting the previous motels you had stayed at. We do our best and we will continue to do our best, just that for some people that will never be enough.

Everything in our unit was clean and tidy, and it had all the utensils and equipment required to make breakfast. We appreciated that there was a jug of real milk in the fridge. The bed was very comfortable.
Service was excellent - we told the owner we might be late, and he prepared arrangements for us to get to our unit if we were delayed.
The interior isn't going to win any awards for consistent design - it's a classic NZ motel, full of a mix of furniture and fittings from the 1970s onwards. There's nothing wrong with that though - that's not what you're in Napier to see!

Room tip: As noted by other reviewers, rooms near the front get some traffic noise, but it's not a lot - I slept through it fine.

Spent two nights here, the units are a little dated the kitchen and bathroom areas are particularly in need of refurbishment but the bed was good.
I did not find the welcome as friendly as other reviewers and I am still not sure of the owners names as the names on the card in the office were different to the one on the wall in the unit. There are a lot of nice motels in Napier so I would recommend you went elsewhere.

I am at a loss to understand your review. You recommend others to stay elsewhere yet you wanted us to book you in for an extra night. We could not because before you had made up your mind to stay, we had taken a confirmed booking which filled the motel. It is Summertime , we are busy, busy, busy and you only mentioned the "possibility" of staying on. So your review seems like spite. We have only just been awarded an excellence award from Booking.com and Tripadvisor also rates us as recommended. The room you had has only recently been redecorated. As for a lack of friendliness, we were only too happy to talk to fellow Brits.

This charming husband and wife offered a clean and affordable sanctuary just off the busy kennedy rd. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard everyday, and well equipped with kitchen utensils if needed. They offered helpful advice on the area and attractions, and the location is perfect for those travelling with private transport. Overall a very pleasant experience!

We normally stay with family when we are in Napier but due to a big family gathering there was no room for us so we had to stay in a motel. I picked Pania Lodge based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and I wasn't disappointed. It is a quiet, clean motel with generous sized rooms and the bed was comfy and the shower was powerful and hot which are the 2 things I rate a motel on. Easy drive into the city and the owners were really friendly and accommodating as we had driven up from Wellington and got there quite late at night and they waited up for us. I would definitely recommend this place.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the back as they are away from the road
