Classic New Zealand motel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Feb 2015
Everything in our unit was clean and tidy, and it had all the utensils and equipment required to make breakfast. We appreciated that there was a jug of real milk in the fridge. The bed was very comfortable.
Service was excellent - we told the owner we might be late, and he prepared arrangements for us to get to our unit if we were delayed.
The interior isn't going to win any awards for consistent design - it's a classic NZ motel, full of a mix of furniture and fittings from the 1970s onwards. There's nothing wrong with that though - that's not what you're in Napier to see!
Date of stay: February 2015
Room Tip: As noted by other reviewers, rooms near the front get some traffic noise, but it's not a lot...

Spent two nights here, the units are a little dated the kitchen and bathroom areas are particularly in need of refurbishment but the bed was good.
I did not find the welcome as friendly as other reviewers and I am still not sure of the owners names as the names on the card in the office were different to the one on the wall in the unit. There are a lot of nice motels in Napier so I would recommend you went elsewhere.

I am at a loss to understand your review. You recommend others to stay elsewhere yet you wanted us to book you in for an extra night. We could not because before you had made up your mind to stay, we had taken a confirmed booking which filled the motel. It is Summertime , we are busy, busy, busy and you only mentioned the "possibility" of staying on. So your review seems like spite. We have only just been awarded an excellence award from Booking.com and Tripadvisor also rates us as recommended. The room you had has only recently been redecorated. As for a lack of friendliness, we were only too happy to talk to fellow Brits.

This charming husband and wife offered a clean and affordable sanctuary just off the busy kennedy rd. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard everyday, and well equipped with kitchen utensils if needed. They offered helpful advice on the area and attractions, and the location is perfect for those travelling with private transport. Overall a very pleasant experience!

We normally stay with family when we are in Napier but due to a big family gathering there was no room for us so we had to stay in a motel. I picked Pania Lodge based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and I wasn't disappointed. It is a quiet, clean motel with generous sized rooms and the bed was comfy and the shower was powerful and hot which are the 2 things I rate a motel on. Easy drive into the city and the owners were really friendly and accommodating as we had driven up from Wellington and got there quite late at night and they waited up for us. I would definitely recommend this place.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the back as they are away from the road

My wife and I stayed here for three nights and we were very pleased with the motel. The room was clean and the bedding spotless. The owner, John, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The motel is situated on one of the main roads into Napier and so access to the town is easy. As we were there during the Deco festival, it gave us a quiet place to rest away from the hustle and bustle. There is no a/c but using the opening windows allowed for good flow of air. It is beside a park so there are good views of mature trees from some of the rooms.

Room tip: Rooms 7, 8 and 9 have the best views but are nearest to a fairly busy road.

If you are looking for a simple motel, with all the basic facilities. then this is the one. All cooking facilities...2 burners, m/wave, pots, pans & dishes. Very central location for Napier area, close to main express-way. This place is outstanding value for money.
Comfortable beds, good shower, separate toilet, excellent tv and coverage,
