Great motel, and friendly staff

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Apr 2018
We had an unspectacular room in the middle of the block but found it spacious, clean, and quiet and were pleased to find a little semi-private courtyard at the back of the room. The room had a lounge area separate from the bed area, and a good size dining table and a small kitchen with hob and microwave. The building doesn't seem to offer any rooms with a view of anything, but a pleasant stay nonetheless. There is a pool though, so if the weather was doing the normal Hawkes Bay thing (which it decidedly wasn't for us) that would be a nice addition.

The beach nearby (don't think I'd swim there - looks pretty wild) and the Westshore area provided good dog-walking options (the motel manager was ok with us bringing our non-shedding small well-behaved dog which was also good). The TV had the rugby live and all in all we were happy with our stay! Nice walk to the Ahuriri cafes too - will definitely be back.

Polite friendly staff. Room was well serviced I had a great room, a Executive Studio, my room was lovely and sunny (unit 6- courtyard place very tidy) ,with net curtains and fully equipped with crockery/cooking facilities for 4 people. However unit 7 was very dark with little sunlight. The heated swimming pool was a "hit" with my grandchildren. the motel is located a street across from the beach . The front entrance is by the mudflats and the rear entrance across from the sea where you can go for walks or use the cycle ways. Great location for restaurants , especially The Thirsty Whale, and no road noise. I would stay here again.

Room tip: Units 4,5 and 6 sunny and close to heated pool entrance

Nice polite staff and management, Breakfast excellent and on time each morning, Bed comfortable. Motel is getting rather a tired look. Needs air conditioining, Spa baths need taking out of units and just have showers. Very hard to get into for whower when you have osteo arthritis, Shower. Shower worked well despite that. Gridge need turning up to 6 to get it to work. Shrubs need trimming badly and pots in front of motels. Mainly cosmetic. Very quiet and not traffic noise at night. Little courtyards need attention and shrubs need trimming badly. Very private though which is great. Overall not too bad.

Room tip: Rooms at back are best.

Quite a nice budget motel, but with a few problems with how it's advertised.
Firstly it's not near a beach it's across the street from a tidal inlet, only water and mud at low tide.
Although the website I booked with said no pets only service animals. The couple next door had two dogs with them that stayed inside the unit all night and we're observed on the bed. On making comment about this during online feedback they said the motel was pet friendly. I personally wouldn't like to stay in a room that dogs were in the previous night.
It was also further from the centre of town than I thought, but that is my fault.
The door was a full width sliding glass one with only thick curtains to pull across to give you privacy. So when closed the room is completely dark even during the day.
And it's a shame that with a lot of budget motels they are always let down by rubbish pillows giving you a poor sleep.

Apart from that it was quite a nice room with a nice kitchen and bathroom.

I booked this motel based on images on their website - which turned out to be false advertising. The rooms were dark and dingy. No net curtains which meant the curtains had to be drawn close for any privacy - resulting in dark rooms. Lights were of poor quality, if they were working. There was also not a single piece of crockery in the room Which is absolutely poor. The evening was very hot and there was no A/C in the room - only a small fan. Will never stay there again.

the rooms are very outdated and granny-style. Nothing was renovated as the webside stats.
The outdoor facility was really scruffy. I wouldn't let my kids play at the children playground.there was a grill outside that looked really disgusting. It was completely rusted, dirty and it was full of dead cockroaches.
The breakfast was also a joke. We got two slices of toast and tinned fruit.
I wouldn't recommend this pace at all. It is far outside from Napier and not worth the money they are charching for the rooms.
