“Kept the little kids busy”
Reviewed 28 April 2015

I found that my 5 year old grandchildren absolutely loved this place and could have spent hours there. Unfortunately there wasn't the same level of involvement from the older children and we had to leave before the younger ones were ready to.

“Art exhibition”
Reviewed 18 April 2015

We spent several hours looking at various art exhibitions of New Zealand artists from
14 March - 21 June 2015

Gallery 12

Free entry

From the first small exhibition of works in the corporate offices of Fletcher Challenge in 1962, grew New Zealand’s largest and most impressive corporate collection of art.

This exhibition is a rare opportunity to view an extensive selection of works from the Fletcher Trust Collection. Works range from rare historical pieces to modernist and contemporary New Zealand art. It was great to see families visiting and discussing art works with their children. We were very taken with the 'Grills' video exhibition explaining the Tongan culture off capping teeth with gold. Weaving Legacies: Dame Rangimarie Hetet and Diggeress Te Kanawa - The Maori exhibition is and always will be of interest.

Brilliant - Dick Frizzell’s exhibition takes its title from the first line of Denis Glover’s poem, The Magpies. The exhibition traces the development of these rarely seen paintings and illustrations for the book, and some of his first landscape studies through his slow journey into the genre of landscape, culminating with monolithic yet humble work, A pile of Stumps.

We were greeted by the staff and directed to the Euan Macleod exhibition which we initially came to see.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed 31 March 2015

Loved the weaving exhibit of the traditional Maori garments, and the stories behind the people who weaved the pieces. I also loved the gallery of art. It was a lovely visit for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

“Small but interesting”
Reviewed 26 March 2015

This is a small museum and entry is free. Unfortunately when I visited a lot of the galleries were closed either for refurbishment or for new exhibits to be installed so there was not much to see.
