This site is constantly being developed and improved. Located between the main highway and the waikato river this an amazing diverse series of formal and unstructured gardens. Runners and walkers will love the trails and paths to explore. A low several hours if you want to see much of it.

“A unique botanical experience. Go even if it's raining. Take the map provided.”
Reviewed 17 March 2017

This is not your ho-hum botanical garden with just plant specimens. These are true gardens where each one has a theme. Each has it's own little entrance. The gardens range from historic classical examples, to a sustainable garden, to whimsical and futuristic. What makes these gardens unique is that the plantings, their arrangement and colors AND the architecture / art both work together to give you a feel for the time and place a garden like this existed. A gardening person will love this place and it's probably a must for a landscape architect. Even if it's raining, which it was when I was there, the gardens are beautiful. There are many covered areas to stand in and enjoy the views. The paths are paved. In addition, there are often musical events in the rotunda and art shows. While we were there, nearly 100 local ukulele players were giving a concert. There is a great gift shop and a nice café to get a cup of coffee and a snack. This is a good kids stop for well behaved children as it has a section that is devoted to things kids would enjoy.
