My first time to Gisborne! I really enjoyed it although it was too short .. Loved the room we stayed in especially because of the view. Very friendly staff and so considerate.. I loved the ocean and and clean crisp air in the mornings! Will definitely stay there again!!

I've stayed at the Portside on seven occasions, the last 5 for a night on a weekly basis. Its really a great little hotel, close to the heart of Gisborne yet it sits calmly overlooking the river. The staff are super, they not only remember your name but also any anecdotes you may have told them, The rooms are very well appointed - either overlooking the river or facing the city - but they have just about everything you need and they are so well laid out. The rooms are also well insulated so you don't hear guests in other rooms or noise from the corridor. I'm looking forward to my next stay.

Room clean. Good size. Adequate kitchen facilities. Staff very pleasant and efficient. All rooms have air conditioning. Quiet location generally but port opposite may not be ideal? Swimming pool of good size.

Room tip: Choose river facing views. A bit more expensive but alternative can have very restricted views. Choose upper levels for a better view

Dear David T,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. May we recommend for you to try one of our Deluxe Studio or Deluxe 1 Bedroom suite on your next visit, these are North facing and very warm, it is also the quieter side of our building, though they do not offer the views of the river and the port.

We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

Kind regards,
The Team at Portside Hotel Gisborne

Really nice place, welcoming staff, nice big clean foyer and the room was perfect. Worth the little extra to get a marina view room. Its only a 5 minute walk to the nearest restaurants and seems to be plenty to choose from.

Very comfortably appointed apartments, though close to the port which was noisier than anticipated. There were, however, great views of cargo being loaded!
Beds were very comfortable, and front desk staff extremely helpful and friendly.
I was very surprised by the lack of a coffee plunger in our 2-bedroom unit, and lack of quality coffees when there was a variety of lovely teas on offer, as well as welcoming cookies!
Close to restaurants and the Captain Cook historical spots.
WIFI was free. A lovely place to stay.
