We arrived here as a party of four, and stayed in a pair of twin rooms. Twin rooms are tidy, and the upstairs twin was a nice spot where our party bedded down for some Planet Earth 2 on laptop. Can't comment on dorms. The kitchen one of the larger I've encountered at a backpackers. We only stayed one night, but based on that night I think this place has a lot to recommend it - including a great group of tables to relax in the sun, friendly staff (though we only spoke to one staff member), and a short walk from town and the beach.

We had a 5 bed dorm. It was quite spacious and very clean. The owners were very friendly and helped in every situation. During a big power out they made sure everything is alright. The garden is nice and a great place to meet people.

We walked in at 10.30am and we're shown straight to a clean, hood sized double room complete with sofa.

Staff were incredibly friend. Social/shared areas were large and well looked after. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, lots of hobs for cooking. Showers hot with good pressure.

Plenty of info on the boards about the area and what to do. 10minute walk from main town, very good location.

The hostel seems to attract a good set of people, all very friendly and respectful of each other's space. Quiet on an evening.

Only downside, wifi wasn't very good.

Would recommend and stay again, reasonably priced

Little did I know that Gisborne is a surf hangout & virtually everyone in the hostel was a surfer. The hostel seemed pretty basic with terrible limited wifi that lasted ten minutes.

The town was closed as was public holiday. Only thing open was museum which actually was very good.

I had a double room was ok I guess ok size.

It's an average hostel in an average town. Don't rush if you're not surfing dude!

Muk & Marcus are the best hostesses and housemates! We felt very much at home in sunny Gisborne and decided to stay for the long term. It is very very clean and the staff (M&M and sumi) are so friendly and helpful! The deck outside is great for those warm summer nights and share a beer with new friends. Surfboards, sandboards, bikes, rackets and multiple games will ensure all day entertainment. The rere rockslide is not too far away and feeding the wild stingrays at tatapouri was amazing! Thanks for all the home cooked meals, the game nights, face painting and many more loveable memories!
