We dine at fine restaurants in Auckland often, 4 of us were wanting to try something new and realised two of us still hadn't been to Aucklands classic Oyster and Chop! So we booked this in for a nice weekend dinner and drinks. Super disspointed, especially for the pricing of the meals. Firstly, the drinks order couldnt have taken any longer to be taken, once ordered (and we ordered entrees at the same time ) the entrees still made it out before the drinks! We had to wait about 25 minutes for our cocktails and the restaurant wouldnt have been at maybe 40% capacity. Anywho, thats ok. Entrees were lovely and the drinks were really nice, service thus far was inexpected given how reknown this place is. We assumed it would be consistent and friendly like the likes of prego, jervois steakhouse etc. Once our mains came 3 or 4 of us were unfortuantely pretty disspointed with out meals. My friends gnocchi was so incredibly salty, she sent it back. We all tried a piece beforehand and agreed- it was insanely rich and too much. The waiter then came back and said 'we have all tried it in the kitchen and we don't think it's salty, we think its fine' ad proceeded to tell my girlfriend she was wrong and that the chef could remake it without any butterlsalt/seasoning and it would be out soon. Because of this attitude when we were being polite we said don't bother. My twice cooked pork belly (not cheap) was dry, flavouress and rubbery. The cracking was like biting into stale cardboard, super dissapointing. Our other friends duck confit was again really salty and not tender at all, my partners eye fillet however was stunning however the jus sauce very very salty. It was sadly a really bad expereince. I would never usually write a review like this or write them at all but for the price we paid and basic friendly service we expected it was so dissapointing!
