It was a rainy day, and we had booked a table for 6:15 pm a few days ago. We arrived at 6:10 pm. We were assigned an outdoor seat that was covered. We thought it might be fully booked, so we didn't request to sit inside. However, during dinner, we noticed that they deliberately assigned all individuals with Chinese ethnicity (or anyone with dark hair) to the outdoor area, while those with brown hair were seated indoors. We observed that the indoor area was only 40% occupied, with many seats available throughout the night. The food was okay, but we definitely won't be going there again.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Oyster & Chop but disappointed by the service. Not sure if our server was new or just lazy but they left our table and at least one other waiting a long time, when they didn't seen to be busy. Another staff member had to pick up their slack.

We had the calamari entree and the sharing lamb shoulder plate. Ordering an entree was a mistake because we couldn't finish the lamb shoulder. When the sides came out I thought they were on the small side but I was wrong, the sharing plate could feed 3 people.

The lamb was delicious but its hard to get excited about steak chips and creamed spinach. Didn't order dessert because we were too full. Overall an enjoyable dining experience, pity about the lack of service in such a nice restaurant.

What a fantastic restaurant, 3 courses, all stunning, great wait staff (an Irish chap) and a stunning location on the viaduct, expensive but worth every penny.

Only negative was the somewhat aggressive lady on the front desk who couldn't find our booking so basically turned us away. I went through my emails and found a confirmed booking and suddenly a table for two was found......

To be fair, this rating for Oyster and Chop has a great deal to do with the loud, obnoxious, foul-mouthed group of men sitting at the table next to us. (Even the one woman with the group was mortified) The restaurant was not full and the staff could have put the group of five a little apart from the other diners. However, we basically stopped talking because we could not hear one another. The food was very good, but the service was slow. That would have been fine if we could have enjoyed ourselves. We ordered oysters, the fish of the day (excellent-red snapper), steak (excellent but very large!), and salmon with an unusal preparation with beets which was lovely and well done.

Book lunch at the last minute, best meal we had in Auckland. Scallops n oysters delicious, fish of the day outstanding and shared the petit fours plate.
Service excellent, our Argentinian waitress a delight and knowledgeable ,
Don’t miss out!
