Waitawa Regional Park is one of the many beautiful places within an hour's drive from the centre of Auckland. I've recently been there twice and have to say, even on a cloudy day it is stunningly beautiful. It has some lovely trails to walk around. The wharf down on the water, and the adjacent beach, are a lovely area to fish for snapper. At the moment there is roadiung road being carried out in that part of the park so you'll have to walk the last 1-2kms but it is well worth the walk. It has toilet facilities down by the wharf adjacent to the carpark. The views for the top of the hill over to Waiheke Island and the Corromandel are amazing. Pac a picnic as there are many tables set up around the park to enjoy the views. Thoroughgly recommended.

There are a number of tracks depending on fitness level.
We chose to do the 1hr 30 min track from the beach and through a few farms and back to the coast.
The views, one word AMAZING!
They also have bbq and picnic facilities, perfect way to end a hike.
Highly recommend 👌
We stayed a few nights here and it is a lovely place. The house is old but comfortable with a spectacular outlook. There are two rooms each with a queen bed, and then a bunk room only accessible through the queen rooms, so not much scope for privacy!
We enjoyed walking to the pier and the beautiful beach near that, as well as walking down the very steep hill to the little bay by the kayakers' campground.
We visited the park about 2 years ago and we revisited it today. We were quite amazed at how many things have developed. A lot of new tracks were there, the scenery were great and the wharf was amazing.
This is the latest and newest regional park at the eastern side of Auckland Region. Yes, this park is still under development and rebuild stages, from previously a site of explosive factory ICI and now turned into an attractive and really beautiful regional park. Today, there is no camping ground available yet, but a really nice beach, walking tracks over undulating terrains with magnificent views to the sea with Waiheke Island and others at the horizon, what lovely combination. A lot of visitors do fishing at the wharf, others doing swimming and jumping from the wharf to the deep water below.
I loved this park! I try to visit somewhere different every weekend, the scenery is just beautiful and there are a few different walks you can do with some hills. It is a bid muddy at the moment due to the rainfall but nothing an old pair or trainers or wellies can't handle! A must visit!
