Description: Sails Restaurant has an amazing location. Set in the middle of Westhaven Marina, beside the Harbour Bridge, with breathtaking views of the harbour. There are few views in the world that capture the essence of the city than the one from Sails Restaurant. A couple of minutes from the centre of Auckland, yet in a world of its own, with unlimited free parking at the door, Sails Restaurant is not just about its location. Over the last three decades the restaurant has forged its reputation as one of New Zealand’s top restaurants through an uncompromising belief in using only the freshest ingredients, the most talented chefs, and professional waiting staff. The menu at Sails is seafood focused, but also includes New Zealand’s finest beef and lamb. The full menu and all the details can be found on our website.

You know how sometimes as you get older and have pretty much tried every style of restaurant and type of cuisine both in NZ and internationally you revert back to the tried and true? Well Sails is now where wife and I go to relax, assured in the knowledge that the Chef knows what he is doing, the wait staff are professionals and the owner is generally on site.

The food (not just sea food) is exquisite, beautifully presented and for what you are getting is actually reasonably priced when compared to other haute cuisine offerings.

Great wine list but maybe the best thing is the professionalism of the staff - outstanding.

So the decision to open on Sunday's for lunch is a Godsend for us as busy work and family commitments during the week can be prohibitive when it comes to dining out.

Thanks Bart - great work.

I have hesitated writing this review previously as this restaurant seems to be one of Auckland's best kept secret and am scared it will become over-run! It is further down the track from the tourist spots in the Viaduct and North Wharf, and sits snuggled near the base of the Harbour bridge with views over Westhaven's fleet of high-end boats. The service is absolutely top notch, with attentive friendly staff who are knowledgeable and helpful without being the least bit overbearing. The kitchen staff obviously love their jobs, and it really shows on the plate with some fantastic attention to detail. I often request the crumbed scallops which are no longer on the menu, and they will always accommodate that request as long as NZ scallops are in season. It sounds like such a simple dish - but it is also easy to get wrong and these are always absolutely perfect and succulent with delicious dipping sauces. The rocket , pear and toasted walnut salad is a perfect side. The petit fours are art on a plate, and perfectly executed. It is a restaurant of truly international standards in an area where there is an abundance of mediocrity.

As regular visitors to Auckland we had often wondered what Sails restaurant was like. Having tried it I'm still not sure. What a mixture:
1 the good:
One of the best positions in Auckland with views of the city and the harbour and the bridge
Excellent food well cooked and well presented
Good and comprehensive wine list
Reasonable prices

2 The bad:
The service was very poor. Six people front of house with two doing a stock take off the wine, one polishing glasses and three trying not to make eye contact with anyone.
The first half of our evening was great then we became invisible. For the last hour and a quarter we couldn't get any water, service or the bill.

Had potential but must pay greater attention to service

Dined here yesterday in celebration of my birthday.
This place is located in a beautiful area. The view is amazing and quite entertaining as the harbour bridge lights up during the night.
If you want to experience fine dining or try something fancy then this is the place.

• Pan Roasted Scallops
• Soft Shell Crab

• New Zealand Crayfish - Butter & Herbs
• New Zealand Crayfish - Four Cheese Sauce

• Cos

• Petit Fours

The Scallops were perfectly cooked and everything worked well together.
I had both Crayfish with the Butter and Herbs, and also the Cheese sauce. Both were delicious but I have to say my favourite had to be the one with the Cheese sauce. It was beautifully cooked and so delicious. Was definitely feeling spoilt while eating it. I really wish I could have more.
The Cos - Salad was delicious. The dressing on this salad was amazing.
The Petit fours was lovely however my favourite was the Creme Brûlée.

My overall experience here was amazing. I loved the service here, everyone was kind, professional and our waiter knew about the food which is so important.
It was my first time here and the food is pricey but it’s worth the try. If you want to experience fine dining then this is the place. The food is cooked and served with love and passion, and the service here is amazing.
Loved my experience.

We came with a group of six, and everything was fabulous: Food, wine, service, view. We had a range of dishes, from oysters to beef, lamb and the catch of the day, and we were all very happy with our food. This is definitely one of the must-go-to places in Auckland.
