Description: Sails Restaurant has an amazing location. Set in the middle of Westhaven Marina, beside the Harbour Bridge, with breathtaking views of the harbour. There are few views in the world that capture the essence of the city than the one from Sails Restaurant. A couple of minutes from the centre of Auckland, yet in a world of its own, with unlimited free parking at the door, Sails Restaurant is not just about its location. Over the last three decades the restaurant has forged its reputation as one of New Zealand’s top restaurants through an uncompromising belief in using only the freshest ingredients, the most talented chefs, and professional waiting staff. The menu at Sails is seafood focused, but also includes New Zealand’s finest beef and lamb. The full menu and all the details can be found on our website.

Havent been to Sails for a few years but was looking for a venue with a view and varied menu so headed along on a Sunday evening. I had a multi course tasting menu and my partner taking advantage of the venue went straight for the crayfish Main.
My 6 course menu was varied and thoughtful and consisted of:
Goats curdbrick pastry, textures of beetroot, date, walnut, verjus
“Ika mata”market fish, lemon, pickled onion, red chilli, coconut, coriander
Venison tatakijerusalem artichoke, sour cherry, cocoa, watercress
Duck breastduck leg confit, sweet potato, plum, cavolo nero, radicchio
Beefcauliflower, kale, onion, truffle jus
Warm chocolate fondantpistachio ice cream, coffee
Partner enjoyed the Crayfish Mornay and said it was a large enough meal for her - I was super hungry so added a Fisherman’s soup withprawn tails, tuatua, fish gnocchi, tomato, fennel as well.
Fellow diners appeared to be enjoying themselves and the staff were always on hand.
Great venue with views over Westhaven Marina, extensive wine and boutigue beer list, the service was efficient and non intrusive and I liked the decorated dessert, a nice touch to the evening.
I would recommend Sails as a venue for a couple or group that wish to take their time sampling the wide and varied menu whilst enjoying the pleasant outlook across the marina.

Ate here last night, with friends. It was probably the most expensive restaurant we've been to in New Zealand. The food was good, no faults. But nothing wow. The portions were small. We ordered two mains and a starter because of the price and could have used more food, but still spent over 100 bucks. It's a nice location but have had better for less money on this trip

From the moment we were seated at the wrong table it should have been a sign of how the night would unfold. This restaurant has usually been exceptional with regards to service but this evening was an absolute disappointment. 55 minute wait from entree to main. No follow up on drink requests or clearing of dishes. And ample staff standing around chatting and yawning. When our frustration was raised there was no offer of compensation and the maitre de let us leave with disgust on our faces. Thanks Sails. Your one less restaurant to patron again.🙁 and by the way you handled us when we paid the bill. You won't care anyhow.

Dined here with friends and we had the special deal with the six course tasting plate for $ 75 per person. The six courses were Goats curd, Fish that was basically a ceviche, venison tataki, Duck breast, Beef and then to finish with a warm chocolate fondant. Every dish was faultless and really hard to pick a winner amongst the six. Loved the Fish and the Beef but as mentioned they were all excellent. Bart assisted during the evening and is always a bonus. Excellent. I enjoyed the Hay Paddock Syrah and the Greywacke Dessert wine was also good. Always plenty of parking.

Yesterday we had a wonderful Father's Day lunch of NZ crayfish, shrimp, red snapper, garlic bread plus delicious glasses of Jackson Estate chardonnay to wash down every sumptuous morsel. Bart's twin sons were on duty, as one manned the bar while son Zack served us efficiently and with excellent knowledge of the food and drink. Kudos to the entire Littlejohn family and staff who have run this establishment for years and have many loyal followers in Auckland and around the world - keep up the great work!!!
