I can't rave enough about this place. We were met at the door for our dinner reservation by the maitre de and shown to our seats inside the restaurant. No sooner had we sat down than we were offered a table at the window and we eagerly took up this offer. The restaurant is exceptionally clean. My partner commented that she was happy to let her bag sit on the immaculate floor...which is usually a no no in any cafe because of the dirty state there. The restaurant is not noisy so you can actually hold a conversation there and be heard with out the usual screaming session which is necessary when other patrons have had a few drinks. The meal was one of the best we have had anywhere, yet alone Auckland. We made a mistake and had a delicious shared entree (whitebait fritters). A mistake because when the main meal arrived it proved our eyes were larger than our capacity to eat the meal provided.
The main meal was the 8 hour slow roasted lamb shoulder. It seems this is a dish people actually seek this restaurant out for. I can see why. The presentation was exquisite. The lamb was moist and perfectly done with a very nice jus.
My partner thought that she might just be able to squeeze in a dessert. I have no idea how, but she managed the best Tiramisu imaginable with a side of coffee flavoured icecream. A great meal in perfect surroundings. Well done the team!!!
