Sadly - I wouldn’t recommend this place even those its centrally located near the university. It’s just too run down and you’ll end up frustrated with problems. The staff are personable but unmotivated and some budget limitations. There’s a noticeable lack of on-site mature supervision. Also some hygiene concerns and better places at similar price nearby. Things got progressively worse as my two week stay progressed e.g my room wasn’t properly cleaned every three days. Housekeeping staff work hard but need more training and insufficient maintenance.
There was no respect for privacy. I had several small items disappear which I know wasn’t the cleaners e.g internet code, cable TV instructions, toilet paper (my own supply)...
The kitchenette included only 1 fry pan that was so old the handle was loose and the bottom no longer flat so pretty much unable to fry eggs and the black surface stuck to whatever you cooked. Request for a replacement was refused even though I was staying two full weeks at around $120 a night. I went and got my own!
- AND that price means an unrenovated room.
In addition the stove top malfunctioned so technician visited twice and problem was a missing part. It was very dangerous as meant you couldn’t turn stove off although dial indicated it was and the heat ring faded. You had to use wall switch. It was eventually fixed but unacceptable in the first place.
The day curtain was torn in about a 20 cm L shape in a prominent place near sliding doors and despite mention, no attempt at repair was made so you constantly had to be careful going outside. The clothing dryer grill constantly falls off so you’re regularly staring at dirt inside the machine. Not a major but adds to unease. It could be fixed with duct tape but no one bothers. In kitchen a stick-on bench tile (ie for hot pots) hasn’t had its edges fully cleaned in a long time. Thick brownish food grime all around so unhygienic. It’s basic kitchenware is too simple for a serviced apartment. Only 1 pot, nothing like a sieve, salad bowl, tongs, grater etc.
There was an absence of necessary instructions like how to operate cable TV. After a week the cable stopped working and took three days to get fixed. Also the internet after the first week had a warning referring to no privacy.
Shame as the bones of this building are solid. The rooms are decently sized and the bed comfortable. There’s good use of light and a sizeable balcony. On 13th floor plenty of fresh air (even if a bit noisy) and cool in the hot weather. All the basic amenities are supplied (excluding smaller item eg kitchenware). Reception are friendly but too often on their mobile phones or out back and many calls for assistance were unanswered. Many excuses so soon didn’t sound authentic.I was advised a charge to print was a whopping $1 per page. They kindly didn’t charge me for this as I was working in with above problems. I got the feeling reception staff preferred to be left alone. They kindly helped me with my luggage and were enthusiastic w helping sort problems.
