I recently just took my dad out here for Father’s Day breakfast and I must say the food was excellent, the coffee was delicious and the service was brilliant despite the place being absolutely packed for Father’s Day. Best eggs bene I’ve had in a long time!

The cottage, based in a house, continues to provide casual garden based dining. This means indoor, porch, and garden seating, depending on the weather. We chose patio seating which was enclosed, sunny, but warm. The menu has an excellent variety of dishes We chose the toasted sandwich, which was full and easy. The coffee drinks were also delicious. A great place to enjoy a quiet, intimate luncheon with a friend.

Have been a regular at Calendula Cottage for years now, and never had a bad experience. However, the other day I ordered a vegetarian eggs benedict, which are served on top of a hash cake. Instantly I saw that the hash cake was full of pieces of bacon. I went and questioned if the hash cakes are vegetarian, and one of the staff said yes, that it wasn’t bacon, and that it was sundried tomatoes. However, you can clearly see in the photo attached, a sundried tomato at the bottom, and then pieces of bacon above it. Would not recommend if you have any sort of dietary requirements.

It is a pretty setting & We were passing at lunch so we stopped in. I had the Beetroot & Haloumi salad again with carrot slices, it is warm salad & really good. My hubby again chose the chicken Caesar salad & again disappointed. It is salad greens, not cos lettuce, lots of chicken but no real dressing, just aoli drizzled over it & hard croutons ( warning hard enough to break a tooth).& a perfectly poached egg. We didn’t stay for dessert as the flies were terrible, I was bitten on my leg ( red & itchyfor a few hours). We swatted flies while we ate. Many tables needed clearing so that didn’t help with the fly problem. We live rural & don’t have this problem.

It was very busy but we managed to get a table although we had to clear the dirty dishes and cups away ourselves. Service was a little slow waiting 20 minutes for a toasted sandwich. Food was okay. Staff not pleasant too busy I guess to even smile.
