Would not recommend!

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Apr 2017via mobile
Seriously, don't stay here. Only redeeming quality is great location, but not if you're wanting to get any sleep because it's right above a bar. There's two other hostels on the same street for similar prices - I would recommend them instead!

Rooms have a tiny window (if any), so always stuffy and smelly. When I was here last there was no hot water in the showers. Check in time is stated as 2pm - cleaning went over time, so I was waiting almost an hour to check in. The other time I stayed someone had accidentally cancelled my booking (which they blamed on hostel world!). No free wifi, you have to pay $4 a day. Staff aren't very helpful.

Stay anywhere else. Would be okay for just one night, but any longer and it's not worth it.

Stayed in a private double room with shared bathroom. No lift, which wasn't a great start as the 5th floor was a long climb up. The stairway is very, very narrow and would be highly dangerous if there was a fire. Free snack wasn't available, due to the bar being closed for a private function. The rooms are in mini apartments, with an apartment containing a few dorms and private rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen smelt disgusting and was very dirty. However, it was reasonably well equipped and there were several kitchens, which is convenient in a hostel.
The room itself was sufficient with a fan. However, one WC and one shower was not sufficient for the apartment and these were not very clean. Paid wifi worked well. Was able to stay in the communal lounge after check-out which was quite convenient. There is also luggage storage. There are significantly better hostels in Auckland, in my opinion.

showers are half decent (bang in the middle of the scale)
rooms are a little warm but nothing too bad
WiFi is actually half decent
If you have ever stayed at a nomads backpackers it's not really any different from the rest. It's an easy and at the right time - cheap stay.
Staff are friendly and helpful and it's a solid central location

Room tip: lower floor rooms have better shower pressure

Would prefer to give zero stars. This place was one of the worst I've stayed in a long time. We booked online and quickly checked the website so thought we were booking into Nomads Auckland. Imagine our horror to find out the website was not as the backpackers was.

Entry into the lift, there were no walls, it was disgustingly filthy - I was too afraid to put my bag down.

The room we had was dark, stank and had no windows or air conditioning. There was no mention of needing to bring towels and no one could provide them as they kept getting stolen. How about having a deposit system??

We checked out at the crack of dawn as we couldn't bear staying any longer than we had to. Having to use clothes to dry ourselves so we could have a shower in the mouldy hovel.

Would not recommend to anyone. . Lucky Adele was amazing so the weekend wasn't entirely spoilt. Gross..

Do Some renovations.

We booked this accomodation online which showed images for the other Auckland Nomads, which is much nicer!!
The fat camel has a smell like a prison and is very lacking in windows and air. No air conditioning and no windows makes it very stuffy and muggy! Would be even more horrible on a hot day.
The beds are uncomfortable, the shower was gross and the fog of smoke in the reception when we arrived didn't help.

We spent as little time as possible at the hostel and were reluctant to actually sleep there.

Great location, then everything else was just ok. Staff, rooms, cleanliness, facilities, security, price you name it, all just ok. Has about everything you need or want either on site or nearby. Would stay again if better options weren't available (increasingly the case with Auckland).
