My family and I stayed in a reasonably-priced apartment which had plenty of space for the 4 of us. The apartment was a little old, but not to the point of being a problem. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The location was great too - close to all the action and to the Devonport ferry (worth a trip over for a coffee and a look at the shops).

The location of the hotel is great with easy access to the ferries and the room was fine but from early morning the noises of building works and roadworks made sleeping in nearly impossible. The Up Cafe on level 1 was terrible.

Dear lynettes673

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay. Its great to know that you liked the location and the room. Auckland city is undergoing a major development and noise from these works can be experienced. Unfortunately we do not have any control over them but we do provide feedback to authorities with regard to excessive noise levels outside of normal working hours.

Upcafe is not operated by the hotel but I shall ensure that we shall provide them with some feedback as we normally recommend guests to dine in there.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback and choosing to stay with us.

Kind regards
Kesh Nand

The Quay West is a once proud apartment hotel now in need of refurbishment (the same is true of the whole neighbourhood). The road in front of the hotel is a major construction site through until 2020 while a subway is built using cut and cover tunnelling techniques. Many of the surrounding buildings are derelict or under construction. As one would expect there is noise at night (due to the CBD location) and in the mornings and during the day due to construction. The noise from the extractors from the food court across Albert Street street runs until 9:30pm so made sitting on the spacious balcony, enjoying the view, less enjoyable. The location is of course excellent, being close to the Viaduct Harbour and ferries and other attractions of the city. Inside the hotel is shabby with peeling wallpaper, tired carpet, and old fashioned decor. The photos on the Tripadvisor website make it look a lot nicer than it is. The gym is quite small and when I tried to use it found it filled with children using it as a play space. However, for walking and running it is great as (once past the construction site) one has attractive running options around Westhaven or along the waterfront. Another positive was the friendly staff. But the only reasons to stay here would be location and a very cheap rate.

Dear Runninguy1011

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent visit to The Sebel Quay West Auckland. I am sorry that experience did not meet your expectations and I would like to apologise.

Auckland City is undergoing a major development therefore roadwork's to upgrade the rail network and construction of buildings are taking place. I can understand this does create inconvenience to everyone while the project is undergoing.

Our hotel is old but has been maintained to a higher standard. We do have plans for refurbishment in near future. On a positive note, we are pleased that you enjoyed the location and the service from the staff.

Thank you again for sharing your concerns and choosing to stay with us.

Kind regards
Kesh Nand

Travelled with family of 5 (3 children under 8) for family holiday to NZ, staying 3 nights in a corner suite
Pros:
-Generously sized suite well suitable for party of 5 (two bedrooms & foldout sofa couch in lounge room)
-Kitchenette with utensils, microwave, full sized fridge & dishwasher
-Separate laundry with washer & dryer
-Lots of space for younger children to play
-Older but surprisingly fast WiFi
-Friendly service from all staff; kids were even given a special welcoming present!
-Locale is very, very convenient
Cons:
-The older style fitout is beginning to show it's age
-Major construction around central Auckland makes driving to the hotel challenging

Overall: excellent option for larger families looking to stay several nights in Central Auckland

Trying to find accommodation in Auckland City that caters to families was proving tricky, and expensive. Then I remembered The Sebel Quay West and I’m so glad I did.

We used public transport so the road works were not a problem - however the hotel had gone out of their way to warn us and give us arrival directions via email and text.

The woman on Reception was fantastic. Warm, knowledgeable and helpful. It set the standard for our short stay. She kindly upgraded us to a 3 bedroom apartment on the 29th floor.

The apartment was absolutely huge with a large deck, three good sized bedrooms, full laundry etc. The decor is certainly tired and dated now but it was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

This is one of the best locations in the city with easy walking access to the Viaduct, Waterfront, Britomart and Queen Street.

If you are a family travelling and looking for the perfect place to spend a few days then you won’t go wrong with this hotel. Overlook the tired decor because everything else is spot on.
