A hotel in transition that is far from ideal at the moment and has some fundamental flaws:
1. Check in: surprised that there is no lobby. The entire hotel is under construction and check in took place in an area that must typically be part of the loading bay. The front office desks are literally on wheels. A very uninviting first impression.
2. Amenities: there are none! Apart from your room and the breakfast restaurant, all other facilities are closed. No lobby to sit in, No executive lounge, No gym, No swimming pool nada. Staff, were cagey about when these renovations would finally be finished. They have been in progress for over a year and many deadlines have apparently been missed. Suggest you call the hotel and make sure the facilities you desire are open before you make a reservation. I must have missed the renovation fine print on the marriott website when making my booking.
3. Rooms: these are lovely and brand new. However, there was a tour group staying on my floor, having a lengthy conversation in the corridor. You could hear every word from within my room. I expected things to improve once they moved into their respective rooms, but no! One was able to continue listening to normal voice conversation in rooms on either side. The sound proofing is terrible and obviously not something that was considered as important during the current renovations. IMO a major flaw! Also, renovation noise starts early and continues throughout the day, every day. Bring earplugs.
4. Service: exceptionally good from most staff. I was truly impressed! But then the hotel kept missing my wake up calls and as a result I ran late for some meetings.
5. Breakfast: very nice restaurant ambience and great food, coffee and service. One of the highlights of the hotel. Breakfast items were varied, different and of high quality, which meant I ended up inviting business guests over several mornings.
