We recently spent three nights at Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa, our third visit to the resort since 1998. Twenty years ago, when the resort was being managed by the Intercontinental Hotels group, there was an air of exclusivity about the place. Now the resort is run by a WA-based property group called Hawaiian, and it feels like it has lost its edge. There are now 250 rooms in total, with many (especially the standalone bungalows) catering to family groups, so there's a marked increase in the number of people staying there and a noticeable change in the type of clientele the resort is attracting. We stayed in an upstairs studio room overlooking the adult-only pool (called the ocean pool). These rooms have been renovated since our last visit in 2003 and are spacious and well appointed. The bathrooms have been completely rebuilt. The timber floors are still creaky and there is some noise transference between adjoining units, which can be annoying if your neighbours get up early. The kids pool area that greets all guests on arrival to the resort is ugly and the piped music played there and at the Adults-only ocean pool is irritating and adds to the slightly down-market feel of the place, as does the mini-golf course (was that really necessary?) and the ugly kids playground equipment and giant sculptures. The gardens have suffered from successive cyclones but there does seem to be less planting, particularly around the ocean pool, and the tropical feel of the resort is in danger of being lost. The reception area needs a makeover and service from staff can be patchy. One improvement is that there is now a very nice upmarket spa on site.

Room Tip: If you want a studio room, request one upstairs so you don't hear people walking around above you.

What a heavenly spot. We stayed in a poolside studio which was fabulous. A most comfortable room for ten days. The room is well organised with plenty of storage so you can put all your gear away. The only thing that would be nice, and was surprisingly absent, was either a Nespresso machine or French coffee press. In a room of this quality, and price, you shouldn’t have instant coffee. The verandah off the room is delightful and I loved being just a few steps from the pool!!

The food at the resort is just fine, and the breakfast buffet very nice, but sometimes a bit lukewarm. While the floor staff are helpful, I found the staff making the eggs to be a bit authoritarian. Hmm..we are guests not students in a cafeteria! The variety of cruisines is good..Japanese, Italian, Asian, and OZ.

The staff are wonderful. The Housekeepers were all friendly and helpful..kudos to Barbara. Our check in was efficient and quick. And Max, the driver who collected us and took us back was delightful. And discovered I had left a small purse in the car before he returned to the resort! Thank you again Max...hope to see you again on our next visit.

Yes, I am looking forward to another visit next year. I’m over Bali, and Broome is a lot more special.

Cable Beach is a great hotel - the restaurant choice was really unexpected and the location next to the beach cannot be beaten in Broome!

Beware of many things being canceled in the Nov-May off season...

Our garden view room was great - view was private and we had Roos outside!

We stayed for 1 week & really enjoyed our stay. We did not hire a car but used the resorts complimentary shuttle bus into the town center once. All the other days we relaxed in the adults only pool, used the complimentary fat wheel bikes for an early morning ride along the beach, hired sun beds & umbrella on the beach. We went to sunset bar most evening to watch the sunset & had dinner from the bar menu, also went to kichi kichi & Zensai which are all in house restaurants which are very nice. The kids pool was also very good with lots of play equipment & water park. Also mini golf, tennis & a gym. They only had 1 happy hour at the Italian cafe from 3 to 4pm. All staff very friendly & helpful. We had vouchers as part of our deal for food which was great & accepted at all place on site. Vouchers for the spa, we had 4 x $30 & we were told at booking the resort stay they could be used together so we took this as being right, I had a lovely 1 hour massage but afterwards I was told I could only use 1 voucher ( I did not read fine print, it did say it on the voucher) I took the word of the resort booking person as being correct. I spoke to resort receptionist at checkout who apologized & gave me a $50 credit for the mixup which I thought was very good of her, & she was going to inform booking staff of correct information. We had a room in Eucalyptus wing close to adult pool & beach area. It was an Extra $50 for poolside rooms but we decided we were happy with our room as it was very close to pool. Great L’Occitane products in rooms so smelt great each day. I will definitely be back.
