See previous post ("Sullivan's Rock to Monadocks campsite day walk"). Beyond Sullivan's Rock, head South to Mt. Cooke. Other than an initial sloping section, it's a flat 5-6km through forest and over a few creeks to the Mt. Cooke campsite. Easy enough. Rest up here as the going now gets tough. Drag yourself up a 2-3km slope that becomes progressively steeper. Collapse at the summit of Mt. Cooke. Congratulations, you're at the highest point (582m) in the Darling Range!

A different sort of day walk not far from Perth. Start by mid-morning; you'll want to get back to your car by sunset. Park at the Sullivan's Rock recreation area on the West side of Albany Highway, 9km past the Jarrahdale turn off, about an hour's drive from the Perth CBD. It's not well signposted, so keep your eyes peeled. Walk aross Albany Highway, and immediately access the Bibbulmun Track Sullivan's Rock spur trail. Sullivan's Rock is a taste of what lies ahead - climbing on granite (beware: slippery when wet). On rock, you are guided by cairns at ground level rather than the more familiar yellow "Waugal" markers on trees at eye level or above. You will also meet many inquisitive lizards! Beyond Sullivan's Rock, head North to the Monadocks campsite. Only 7km distant but Mt. Vincent and Mt. Cuthbert are in the way. Prepare for steep but short ascents/descents and great views of an ancient landscape. You'll have earned a well deserved rest by the time you get to the campsite. The return journey always feels easier... A good walk to break in new boots.

Walked west fm Lights Beach carpark. 2.5hrs until came out on Williams Bay Rd (and walked the 1km in to Greens Pool carpark for swim and collection).
Nice morning walk through beautiful scrub, bush land, very pretty coastal woodland and rocky outcrops. Path keeps inland and is pretty well marked. Sandy in places. Some great views. Passes William Bay hut towards end of walk.
