The Customs House is wonderfully located on the Hobart Waterfront for strolling the harbor in the evening, popping into excellent restaurants, especially the Drunken Admiral, a stones throw from the street market, and for a somewhat longer walk, the Cascades Brewery and the Women’s “Factory”. Many tours pick up at the hotel, as does the airport bus. The hotel staff are terrific, and will confirm tour bookings, arrange pick-up etc. Many tours start early in the morning, but ask and they will provide a pretty good continental-style breakfast for your room. The rooms are large and comfortable.

If you are planning to visit Hobart and all its attractions and not spend most of your time in the hotel then this is a perfect place to stay. It is literally 1 minute walk to the Saturday Salamanca Market, the ferry to MONA, The Glass House restaurant and many piers and all their attractions. Rooms are comfortable, clean and breakfast is included and the adjoining pub is pretty happening. It is an historic building with character, it is well preserved with few quirky elements. I would definitely stay here again.

The other places we have stayed at were unavailable and my main concern with staying at this hotel was noise. We were advised to book a Waterfront room on L2 as it is not over the bar, which we did. We were actually allocated a Waterfront room on L1. The room was clean, a decent size, renovated bathroom, basic but suitable. There was noise but it was not from the hotel/patrons/cars etc. there was a festival occurring on the waterfront and I'm sure we only heard it due to the direction of the wind as by the time we came home from dinner all was quiet and it was a Friday night. The room was fairly sound proof and we had no complaints.

On going to breakfast we were told there was a half hour wait and appreciated the waitress informing us as it gave us the opportunity to check out and take luggage to the car. Breakfast food was fine. All staff were pleasant and helpful.

The only reason you would book a waterfront room here is so you don't suffer noise issues, after all it is a hotel with a bar etc. If I return to Hobart for more than a nights stay, I would probably try and stay somewhere else.

Room tip: Make sure you are away from the bar

We stayed 4 nights at this charming hotel. We were not disappointed. Location " the best"
As our stay included a Friday and Saturday night we chose a quieter room at the back, and we did not hear a sound. The staff were great and very helpful. Breakfast was included and was very good. A La Carte.
We dined one night in the restaurant which was excellent, best seafood risotto I have had! We also joined the crowds outside and in the bar for a "Port" night cap. Great atmosphere.
