This heritage hotel is very quaint and our room was spacious and clean. The king size bed was very comfy and the double glazing kept the noise from Macquarie Street at bay. The bathroom needed some work - cracked sink, rusted plughole and the smallest shower I have been in for quite a while. However the room was well furnished with a large TV and good wifi access in the room. There is a lounge and bar next to reception which seemed well stocked, and coffee was available also. However the "buffet" breakfast was very meagre to say the least. Only two types of cereal, one juice, bread for toast, with either vegemite or raspberry jam. Instant coffee or tea bags, although you could order a coffee over the bar for an additional cost. There was no hot food offered, or fruit or yoghurt. The breakfast area / restaurant seems to have been part of a refurbishment so is newer than the rest of the property, however there is no restaurant service at present. I understand that Nant's, the whisky company which owns this property, is currently in the process of being bought out by a larger concern so it may explain the lack of food service available at present. There are 6 car parking spaces at the side of the property but it's a bit squeezy. We found the staff friendly and helpful, which given they are probably in limbo not knowing if they have a future job, was a credit to them. The position on Macquarie Street is within 3-4 blocks of Salamanca Place and the waterfront.

Hi Christine, thank you so much for taking the time to provide a true representation review of our Hotel. We are undergoing a renovation and hopefully explains the different styles. The Hotel is not for sale and is very separate from other Nant associated companies - so no changes there. We do promote Nant as product and did have a strong link to the bars and produce. We have made changes last week to our now free breakfast offering based on similar reviews of yours, which may explain where other recent reviews reflect positive comments about breakfast.

We'd welcome you back as a guest and thank you for choosing Macquarie Manor.

That's how I'd describe our room: tall, dark, and dingy. Rather down at the tooth. Very poor breakfast: two kinds of bread, cereal, instant coffee. Staff was friendly but not terribly competent. The location is the main calling card for this hotel. It apparently is under new management. Let's hope they can transform this diamond in the very, very rough.

This was a lovely gentle 'clubby hotel' which had well set up rooms, quiet area of Macquarie Street and within easy walking access to everything in CBD Hobart.
Very obliging staff but didn't see much action from other stayers having breakfast. I think we all headed off to Salamanca!! Just superb down there

We dropped off our rental at Thrifty around the corner from the hotel, although there is a handful of parking spaces available.

Breakfast is modest but adequate, no complaints.

Room was fine, better than I had expected based on the reviews. Rate was in line with room and amenities.

What kept it from being 5 stars: No Wi-Fi in the rooms; we had to go to the lobby and sit there to get online. The staff said that was unusual and they always had good reception in that room. While sitting in the lobby online over the next couple days, we heard guest after guest come in and say the same thing. The staff always acted surprised, as though it were the first time that complaint was heard. Doesn't seem anything was done about it, as guests started to accumulate in the lobby to go online.

Plus: although there is a ramp to a side door, the side door is locked and our attempts to get their attention didn't work; we had to walk around to the front and drag our luggage up the stairs. While our room key later did open the side, ramp door, it didn't help at check-in and check-out, when we most needed it.

Other than those issues, I have no problem recommending this establishment, and would certainly consider staying there again.

A great location to everything in Hobart. Fantastic and helpful staff. Large, spacious room. Sensational ambiance with a quiet and warm lounge area to sit back, read a book, the paper and have a drink by the bar.
