Lovely aquarium with a nice layout covering all the different ecosystems around cairns from inland billabongs and rivers to the mangroves, reefs and open ocean.
Lots of informational signage and various talks at different times of day by the staff.
A good way to spend a few hours out of the rain!

The kids and the adults loved the aquarium. We go several times a year and always enjoy it. The displays are beautiful and educational.

I’m not sure if it was extra busy due to the awful downpour of rain etc but it was uncomfortably packed. No one was following COVID safe distancing and staff weren’t enforcing it either.
Yes, us Victorian are probably a little more precious on the subject but this was gross. People squishing past shoulder to shoulder etc and everyone touching surfaces all over the place.
The fish were beautiful and I loved the separation between the freshwater fish and salt water etc. really informative material as well BUT not worth the crazy price tag given you get through it in about an hour and a half. That was with 3 young kids and 2 elderly so by no means hurrying.
I think if the weather is bad or for whatever reason you can’t get out to the actual reef this would be ok. But to put it in perspective we paid for everyone to goto green island for a whole day for only $90 more.

The Cairns Aquarium operates under a site specific Covid-19 safe plan authorised by the Department of Health and have measures in place that all customers are required to check in via the Qld Govt app, we provide sanitiser stations throughout the building, social distancing and area limit signs are clearly displayed on floors and walls, which the public have some responsibility to follow and our staff remind guests during all of our daily presentations and talks. In addition, we have employed additional cleaning crew who undertake regular sanitising of the whole aquarium. We hope you had a fantastic holiday in the region visiting a variety of our outstanding tours and attractions.
