The 45 minute guided tour at Government House is a real gem.
Learn a little about the history of all of the Governors, see their portraits and coats of arms. A lovely Australian Heritage building in daily use, not a museum.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit Government House as part of a delegation. A magnificent building housing some of the vice regal history of NSW set in beautiful grounds overlooking the harbour - what's not to like! Highly recommended!

Did not know what lay behind the gates of Government House. Was completely blown away by the majestic natives that adorn the harbour.

We were not sure what to expect, but came away very impressed. It helped that the Governor drove past as we arrived and gave us a wave! And we were there when the one o'clock gun went off. We were able to join the 1 pm tour with only a few minutes to spare, so no waiting around. Note - you need photo id to get in. Our tour guide (Sue) was interesting and knowledgeable. Some of the furniture, fittings and the hand-blocked painted walls are impressive. The gardens are delightful and the views from the windows just lovely. The tour takes about 45 minutes and is free.

This is the formal residence of the Governor of New South Wales (NSW) and is adjacent to the Royal Botanical Gardens. It would be easy to miss this site and even easier to be deterred by the fences that surround the residence.

There are tours of the house on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The tours last about 45 minutes and are free, but you will need a ticket. Tickets are obtained by showing a government issues ID card at the security station on a weekend day. It should be noted that taking pictures is not allowed inside the residence.

In addition to the tour of the house, the public is free to roam the grounds, and you do not need a ticket to do this. The grounds are open everyday.

If you enjoy history, and want to learn more about the history of NSW, this location should be a must see on your itinerary.
