We rented this place because we wanted a place large enough to hold all 12 members of our family and wanted a location in a cloud forest. This place was incredible. Upon driving up the road and approaching the top of the hill, you are left in awe at the size of the house with the gorgeous landscaping and cornucopia of colors from the plants and flowers that surround the property. The lights on the walkways connecting the two homes provide an ambiance that would rival many of the 5 star resorts one would find. Both homes were very comfortable and with lots of room. The bedrooms and bathrooms are plenty large. The kitchen in the main house is fully stocked with cooking and eating supplies and there was not one thing we needed that we didn't have.
We spent time walking the trails on the property and swimming in the river. The area is spectacular and very peaceful. The entire property is 95 hectares, so you pretty much are in your own world, once you arrive to the house.
The owners (Kamaal and his wife) are very kind and helpful, and are just down the road should you need them. They are responsive to e-mail and phone messages and we had great communication with them prior to the visit, which helped us to prepare. Kamaal even met us out on the main road for the drive up to Ecollacta.
We definitely plan to return to this place sometime in the future. If you are looking for a great getaway, with an awesome landscape, privacy, and a place large enough to hold up to 12 people, this place is for you.
We had such a lovely time at Ecollacta. We had lots of fun swimming in the river and the waterfall, and hiking around the property and the "camino de los incas". The guest houses are absolutely gorgeous and the views from inside are just incredible! Eric was a wonderful host who made sure we felt at home. We will definitely come back!
In November, we booked both houses for our 9 person family, 3 adults and 6 kids 4-16 years of age. Eric and his Father met us at the entrance to the property and drove us the 20 minutes to the secluded and VERY Private homes. They were awesome!!! 360 degree views, lots of giant glass windows, hammocks and chairs and benches everywhere to sit and relax in, the views all around the homes are spectacular and the wild birds and flowers surrounding the homes are awesome too!!!
We booked these homes for 3 nights and our intentions were to go into Mindo for a day or two but we changed our mind and just hung out and relaxed on site taking short and beautiful walks locally to the waterfall, stream/river, covered bridge, which allowed full swimming in beautiful clear water. The kids loved this place!!! Inside everything was clean and modern, of all the places we stayed in Ecuador, this was by far the nicest! Eric and his family were super helpful, they both live close by on the 200 acres, we felt super safe, and they were all very happy and willing to help in any way possible! They took us on walks, arranged for a drive into town, and even arranged for our kids to watch an elderly neighbor couple milk their cows just 5 minutes away from the main house! We cannot say enough about "Ecollacta"!!!! 5 Stars across the board! You will not regret and only 1.5 or so away from Quito!!!!
This was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The house is on an elevated piece of land with all glass windows that gives you beautiful views of the mountains and nature. The tranquil setting and attractive décor made our stay extremely relaxing. I was able to decompress and get the rejuvenation needed in this peaceful environment. There are many areas to hike and explore with the opportunity to see many exotic birds and wildlife along with waterfalls and streams. I would highly recommend this destination to anyone looking to recharge and unwind. The owners of this property are very accommodating and helpful, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
Thank you so much for incredible, relaxing and beautiful memories in the Andes! The house was very comfortable, spotless and perfect for the visit we had in mind. We were able to visit and hike the region, while enjoying nice and romantic dinners in the all-glass view on the dining room. Breakfast on the patio was truly magical!! We recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area! Unique and magical. Have fun :) and thank you again.
