I have been a member of Totton Health and Leisure centre for a number of years. Unfortunately ever since Freedom Leisure took over control from NFDC it has continually declined even though they have recently installed new equipment in the gym area albeit of lesser quality than the old equipment. Freedom Leisure appear to do everything on 'the cheap'. The cleanliness of the gym area is generally poor. I reserve judgement on the maintenance of equipment as it is 'new' but prior to that machines were out of action for months on end due to lack of preventative maintenance. However my biggest concern at the moment is the lack of control regarding the temperature of the working areas, this includes both the gym and the changing rooms. Freedom Leisure apparently have a policy that the air conditioning in the gym is turned off during winter months no matter what the ambient temperature is outside (currently +12C). When there are thirty or more people in the gym working out it gets exceptionally hot and therefore unhealthy - I go there to keep fit not to suffer from heat exhaustion!!! The gym and reception staff try to be helpful but unfortunately their management don't appear to be listening which is very frustrating and there are a lot of members that are becoming more and more annoyed. I would NOT currently recommend this facility to anybody.
Been a member of this gym for over 20 years would definitely recommend it. Very friendly atmosphere and the staff are always happy to help. The recent refurbishment of the gym is fab all new equipment with state of the art virtual programs to follow on cardio equipment. Really spacious and well laid out with extensive weights room and resistance machines to suit all levels of fitness. The centre also has a variety of classes from yoga to spin again for all levels. If you want to spice up your Friday morning try Toby’s spin class really motivates you and gets the weekend kick started high light of my work out week.
Weekly spin classes are now a regular for us. Toby is the king of spin, I like the fact that he explains what you are going to do, then guides you through it supporting you all the way. See output from today's spin class 'Quads to the gods' - there is no way that I could have achieved this a year ago. Thanks Toby !
Wow, the recent gym refurbishment is fabulous, so many more weights! Staff so helpful to help with new machines.

Amazing refurbishment in the gym! Great bits of new kit! Personally feel though a few more mirrors could be added (if possible) on the wall behind the treadmills to allow for stretching without getting in the way of those using the bench’s.
Glad to see the timetable has been re-vamped. Nice to see Friday spin again! Looking forward to getting back to

I came here just before 5:20pm yesterday with a friend who is blind and was served by a receptionist who gave us average service.
I appreciate that prior to this I was told on the phone that the steam Room was closed. No apologies for the inconvenience of not having this facility was shown by staff. I appreciate it was not their fault but it did not cost anything to make guests aware. Even detailing this on the website might have been helpful.
The other big let down was the fact that the lockers are in a poor state and that locker keys had no band or wrist band around them. Not very practical if you have them in your pocket. Nowhere to put them accept by the bench side by Lifeguard while I swam.
Again no prior communication made by reception staff about this as to why. Water fountain broken by Sauna and only one working one by changing rooms.
It seems that regular guests have patience with this and keep coming to this centre but if this blips keep happening in this leisure centre when I visit with my disabled friend then we will be forced to go somewhere else permanently for our swim and sauna and steam room session. Lifeguards seem very off hand ish whenever you ask them to help you with something or guidance. If you don't like your job and people don't do the job likewise Reception staff.
It's not good enough. They need to be customers in people's work places themselves and experience what bad service treatment is like and then they will realise what it feels like.
Renovation of the reception area is the only positive guests like me and my friend could take away from our visit yesterday but otherwise worst Leisure Centre hands down for timely communication, courteousy and for a quality skill in ignorance. Keep that up and you'll soon see a decline in customers and revenue.
