“A little gem oft overlooked.”
Reviewed 15 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We found The Robins at Cowclose Barn about fifteen months ago and enquired about a stay last October but were unable to get away. We kept the owner, Barbara Campbell's reply in our in-box and when a n opportunity to travel came up again this year we got in touch and made the booking. The building is in a beautiful setting high above Chesterfield in Derbyshire only minutes away from the town by car but quiet and restful with sunsets worth the stay by themselves.
On arrival we were greeted by Barbara's Husband, I can't for sure remember his name but Alan rings a bell, sorry if it is wrong. He showed us around the barn conversion and pointed out all those things that need pointing out including a cake baked for us by Barbara and a bottle of wine to greet us. There was even a pint of milk in the fridge and tea bags in the kitchen. The Robins is small with a sitting room with TV and electric fire as well as central heating, a well equipped, modern bathroom and a kitchen with full cooker and fridge with a microwave and everything else we would need. The cutlery, crockery glassware and pots and pans were all in excellent condition and most looked new. There is a staircase at the back of the sitting room leading to a large double bedroom with good bed and mattress topper, and excellent hanging space. There is nothing you would need to bring with you apart from your own clothing and food. (don't bother bringing cake, Barbara does a good job).
There were toiletries in the bathroom and even washing up liquid and fresh clean cloths in the kitchen. The whole house was spotless. There are a number of folders which gave information about the property and some walks around the area, and there are quite a few good walks to be had. There is information about all local visitor attractions, eateries and pubs in the area. Wifi is free as a guest but as it is shared with the owners satellite connection it is really just enough for e-mail and social network use and being free it would be abuse to download data or play on line games. Anyway, if you are on holiday there is much more to do and see with Hardwick hall, Chatsworth, Chesterfield Markets, Bolster castle and the close by Linacre Reservoirs walks to be had.
The Robins must be stuffed to the rafters with insulation because the central heating was quite sufficient to keep the whole pace warm. It is on a timer from 7am to 10 am and then five pm to 10 pm. Outside those times there is an electric fire in the lounge which we had no need to use but there again it was never too cold out and single figures at night were kept at bay by the suer insulation.
If you read all the above you could be excused for thinking that I own the place and that this review is a pr exercise. Far from the truth but an excellent holiday home deserves a good write-up. There is nothing more to add that comes to mind except that there is an excellent Inn across the road that is open for food for most of the day.

Thank you for taking time to give such a comprehensive review. Allan and me try very hard to ensure that The Robins is clean, comfortable and welcoming. I'm glad you enjoyed the cake and wine (not together I hope!). Barbara

“Superb cottage in a perfect location”
Reviewed 29 August 2012 for a stay in August 2012

This cottage is perfect for a couple. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed for longer. The cottage is cosy and very clean and everything you need is provided in the kitchen. We really liked how the owners are making an effort to help the environment in the running of the cottage too, as well as welcoming us with wine and cake-a very nice touch. The cottage is also perfectly located for exploring the surrounding Peak District countryside and attractions such as Chatsworth House. The owners provide lots of information about the surrounding area which really helps with planning your exploring!
