The Intercity bus stopped off at Flat Hills Cafe whilst I was travelling from Mount Maunganui to Palmerston North, the bus driver launched into a huge sales pitch before arriving at the cafe and was really singing their praises.

Flat Hills is a large complex comprising a tourist park as well as a cafe. There was a large selection of sandwiches, pies as well as full meals being available in the cafe. The staff were efficient and friendly and did well to deal with the buses stopping frequently with a short turnaround.

I enjoyed the quick visit to Flat Hills and I would like to visit again, possibly not on a short visit whilst on a bus journey because there is not enough time to fully appreciate the food or the surroundings.

Luckily for me the Intercity bus to Taupo from Wellington stopped here for 30 mins. I had an enormous piece of carrot cake & a pot of breakfast tea. The cake was delicious. The tea was leaf tea - not a teabag & the helpful staff were quick to get me a free hot water top up for my second cup. Great prices too. Highly recommended.

We stayed in a family pod and it had everything we needed, and was so comfortable! The farm animals added that country feeling, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

We stopped for a night at the campground, which was quiet and very clean. There were plenty of animals in the paddocks around the campground, and a lovely playground behind the cafe. And free wifi.
We ordered meals at the cafe, to be delivered to the van before 7pm - the lasagne, shepherd's pie and vanilla slice were delicious.
I had breakfast - pancake stack, with a complimentary coffee, in the morning before we headed off to our destination.
Service was friendly and efficient, the campground, camp kitchen and lounge and ablutions blocks were clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water, and all needs supplied.
We will be returning to both the campground and the cafe.
