Be sure to try a glass of Stonyridge Larose - it was a delicious glass of wine from this vineyard's grapes.

We went here for my friend's son's 1st birthday. They accommodated about 50 of us without any problems. The food, wine and service were all good and the views amazing. It is a bit of a hike from the bus stop, but they told us about that when we booked.

Ananda Tours brought us here for lunch and we're glad they did. Huge platter and we noticed lots of groups who had found their way here all by themselves. Well worth lingering, which is how long it takes to finish(or come close to finishing) this delicious lunch. Oh, and the wine is pretty delightful too.

On a recent afternoon excursion from Auckland out to Waiheke Island I chanced upon this amazing winery and cellar door experience. The wines are available for tasting at a fee, depending on the quality of the label. I settled for a taste of their most famous wine - the Larose, which is a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties grown on the northern slopes of the island. Larose is a truly exceptional wine with all the complexity and length you would expect from a world class wine and at $390 per bottle (dependent on vintage) so it should be. You can try it for $18 per taste or $50 for a glass. The Larose is apparently available in Michelin Star restaurants right across the globe. The passionate staff talk knowledgeably and emotively about the wines and a great ambassadors for the product. I did not eat here but the restaurant and its views looked amazing.

We called in to Stonyridge on Monday planning to taste some wines and then have lunch. We were directed to sit on couch and someone would take care of us. A group of three young women were also directd to do the same. There was one couple tasting wines at the time and the restaurant was probably one third full so it didn't appear to be a busy time. There were a number of staff casually walking around. We waited over 20 minutes to receive attention and none was forthcoming, or to the other group waiting. We walked out disgusted! This is supposedly a high-profile establishment based on the photos on the wall of the rich and famous but the service didn't match the profile. We were neither rich nor famous but I could have been a wine buyer for a restauranr or a large overseas wine merchant. They wouldn't have known and didn't seem to care. Instead we walked down the hill and had a pleasant lunch and tasted some wines and beers at Wild on Waiheke. The different attitude to customer service was very obvious. We later went to Mudbrick, which was very busy but they served us promptly and we tasted some excellent local wines. Beware of places that only cater for the rich and famous!
