This review is going to be a little long, but there is a lot to say.
Quick review: We signed up for the platinum experience and do not regret the extra money spent. Marcelino and David were very helpful and assisted us every step of the way. They booked our dinner reservations (more below), helped us with the live music venues and constantly had snacks and beverages in our room. Request these two if you get the chance!
The Review: I am blown away that anyone could ever give El Cid anything less then 4 stars. Well I’m sort of blown away, some of the customers at the resort are pretty lazy and very unappreciative. You are vacationing in the middle of paradise, with free drinks, great food and amazing views, yet people still find a reason to complain. “Walks are too far”, “lines are too long”, “tough to get reservations” 🤪
You have the option to be driven around in a golf cart, there are multiple buffets, and we ate at every restaurant thanks to David and Marcelino !
The resort is amazing and once you walk it once or twice, it’s so easy to navigate! The party pool is by the marina, the adult pool is by the Mercado, and the Ruf pool…well find that on your own, so worth it. There are 5 pools, most with an amazing view of the ocean
You can’t walk 100 yards without finding a bar, lots of beers and cocktails! Our favorite bar was Waves. The bartenders were great and there is live music at nights.
Our favorite lunch buffet was Mercado, oh my goodness. We went everyday. Great iced coffee next door. Tacos freshly made, chicken, fish, Chinese food, pasta. My recommendation is don’t fill your plate, sample everything!!!! Have ice cream afterwards at Aromas.
Restaurants: David and Marcelino helped us out and we were able to try all of them.
1. Taco Night: everyone shows up. Tacos are soooo good, try the flambed cafe! The corn wasn’t great, but man the tacos were fire
2. Ile de France: the portions are a perfect size, I’m not going to help w your choice. We ordered different things so we could try more. We both enjoyed our meals very much. This is a top 3 restaurant for us.
3. La Marina: This was our least favorite restaurant, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good, it means we didn’t order correctly and there is a lobster that is bigger then the table (extra $65).
4. Trattoria D Julio: This was amazing! Down to the tiramisu. I had a delicious pasta, my girlfriend had lasagne. Great wine. Did I mention the tiramisu. Our second favorite.
5. Kobo: This was our favorite so entertaining and so fun!!! You have to try this one.
The live entertainment is short but really good. Waves had a solo singer that was so good and really nice and engaging. There were a couple of different bands, one sang good covers the other were all about the party! They were done and everyone wanted more so they played 30 minutes longer.
Our only complaint was the family next to us was very loud and the kids started fighting at 7:30 am. We didn’t need an alarm clock. Lol Maybe El Cid could put families together, who knows. We had the option to do adults only.
Overall we had a wonderful time and are so happy with our choice and so appreciative of David, Marcelino and the entire staff.
Make sure you bring a lot of ones to tip, you don’t have to but we are glad we did.
