El Cid was a wonderful trip

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Jul 2024via mobile
This review is going to be a little long, but there is a lot to say.

Quick review: We signed up for the platinum experience and do not regret the extra money spent. Marcelino and David were very helpful and assisted us every step of the way. They booked our dinner reservations (more below), helped us with the live music venues and constantly had snacks and beverages in our room. Request these two if you get the chance!

The Review: I am blown away that anyone could ever give El Cid anything less then 4 stars. Well I’m sort of blown away, some of the customers at the resort are pretty lazy and very unappreciative. You are vacationing in the middle of paradise, with free drinks, great food and amazing views, yet people still find a reason to complain. “Walks are too far”, “lines are too long”, “tough to get reservations” 🤪
You have the option to be driven around in a golf cart, there are multiple buffets, and we ate at every restaurant thanks to David and Marcelino !
The resort is amazing and once you walk it once or twice, it’s so easy to navigate! The party pool is by the marina, the adult pool is by the Mercado, and the Ruf pool…well find that on your own, so worth it. There are 5 pools, most with an amazing view of the ocean
You can’t walk 100 yards without finding a bar, lots of beers and cocktails! Our favorite bar was Waves. The bartenders were great and there is live music at nights.
Our favorite lunch buffet was Mercado, oh my goodness. We went everyday. Great iced coffee next door. Tacos freshly made, chicken, fish, Chinese food, pasta. My recommendation is don’t fill your plate, sample everything!!!! Have ice cream afterwards at Aromas.
Restaurants: David and Marcelino helped us out and we were able to try all of them.
1. Taco Night: everyone shows up. Tacos are soooo good, try the flambed cafe! The corn wasn’t great, but man the tacos were fire
2. Ile de France: the portions are a perfect size, I’m not going to help w your choice. We ordered different things so we could try more. We both enjoyed our meals very much. This is a top 3 restaurant for us.
3. La Marina: This was our least favorite restaurant, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good, it means we didn’t order correctly and there is a lobster that is bigger then the table (extra $65).
4. Trattoria D Julio: This was amazing! Down to the tiramisu. I had a delicious pasta, my girlfriend had lasagne. Great wine. Did I mention the tiramisu. Our second favorite.
5. Kobo: This was our favorite so entertaining and so fun!!! You have to try this one.

The live entertainment is short but really good. Waves had a solo singer that was so good and really nice and engaging. There were a couple of different bands, one sang good covers the other were all about the party! They were done and everyone wanted more so they played 30 minutes longer.

Our only complaint was the family next to us was very loud and the kids started fighting at 7:30 am. We didn’t need an alarm clock. Lol Maybe El Cid could put families together, who knows. We had the option to do adults only.

Overall we had a wonderful time and are so happy with our choice and so appreciative of David, Marcelino and the entire staff.

Make sure you bring a lot of ones to tip, you don’t have to but we are glad we did.

Excellent accommodations, the staff: My Concierge-Juan Sequeida took care of some personal needs and went above and beyond to assist and came thru without blinking an eye. My two Butlers: Noah and Angel were fantastic with taking care of any other needs that my family and I inquired about. They were relentless and tirelessly worked again above and beyond to make our stay not only comfortable but made our stay even more pleasurable than I could have imagined. Our stay actually felt genuine and meaningful as we didn’t have to worry about much as these wonderful staff members took care of our very need and were delightful while doing so.

I bring the whole family every year and sometimes come as a getaway from the family as well and am always treaded with such genuine and respect.

I can’t wait to go again and would love to have the same staff be a part of our stay. And of course anyone that has been here before, you all know amenities are fit for a king. 😉

Thanks to all,
Johnny

Room tip: Some things have changed with the spa where they charge extra for some stuff they didn’t before. I felt that the Massages were overpriced.

The resort was great. All the staff were friendly a and helpful especially our butlers Noah and Roman. The resort is spread out so you can see the beauty of the are and animals wandering. There are various signs outlining the vegetation and animals in the area. The ocean view is spectacular.

Room tip: Use the spa the hydrotherapy is great.

The grounds are beautiful and full of flowers, trees and wild life. We had a few maintenance issues but they were resolved right away. Our experience was especially great because of our Butler Noah. He assisted with eveything we needed, from dinner reservations to rides to the other resort. Noah went above and beyond and decorated our room for my mother and aunts birthday 🎂!

The resort was beautiful and the rooms were nice. The restaurant staff the individuals working the bars they were all great and very friendly and they made this Resort stay enjoyable. My friend and I usually do not stay in all inclusive because we spend a lot of time in the city and just out exploring but this vacation was all about relaxation, so this was our first all-inclusive and I was a little disappointed.

However there were many cons.

1) Wi-Fi- it was an additional cost. For those with thier own data plans, the resorts "blocks" your usage depending on your "resort". My phone Wi-Fi always worked in the main lobby and in the areas of their higher end property.

2). The Food- shrimp scampi is not made with tomato sauce. Our first night's dinner was supposed to be Mediterranean and there was only one Mediterranean item on the menu, instead I had Thai shrimp. I would say that three maybe four of their 12 restaurants were consistent in their food. Dinner reservations was almost impossible to get even though we were told to book them two days in advance they were always sold out or full even when the restaurant did not look full because they wanted to push you towards their mediocre Buffet.

3) Service- so I don't expect my room to be cleaned every day in those instances I will put the please do not clean sign on the door but when you do clean my room I expect you to refill everything so if you take my face towel replace the face towel if I drink out of a cup please give me a new cup. So usually when I travel, I do not leave a tip until the end of my trip, and that tip is truly based on the service that I received. So my traveling buddy in her room left a daily tip for when she wanted her room clean one day she left a tip... the tip was taken, but the room was not cleaned. Guest services does not assist you and travel back to the airport instead they send you outside to talk to the Bell hop so they can help coordinate picking up your bags and getting to the airport. Even though if we had stayed in one of the higher end hotels at a minimum they offer shuttles that you can pay for to get to the airport.

4) All-inclusive- there are no snacks provided to you in your room or even at the pool. There were a lot of pool bars but no food and I understand that you wanted to keep the Critter population down so they did not allow you to eat at the pools even though they allowed you to drink to the point where people were obnoxious. So there was one little rest convenient restaurant that had sandwiches or ice cream or cookies but that was a walk so it wasn't anything convenient about that. So they were severely lacking in this area is it related to quick items.

And if you went to the gift shop to buy a bag of chips which you shouldn't have had to do because this is all inclusive restaurant a package of Lay's potato chips was $17 that is absolutely unacceptable.

New experience--we vacationed during a hurricane! El Cid staff was on it. They provided daily updates and secured the property to avoid as much damage as possible. A few things could have been handled differently, but overall we were very pleased with their disaster plan.

Shout-outs to a few that made our stay extra special: Alma and Luis were superstars! Daniel and Carlos in the Mediterranean restaurant were attentive and so very accommodating. So happy to see Daniel back in the Italian restaurant--great surprise! Calmo and Pedro are always welcoming in the French restaurant. Rudolfo and Abmael make breakfast and lunch enjoyable. Lastly, Noe, Adrian and Francisco are the best bartenders you could ask for!
