We had a terrific 7 day, 6 night vacation at the El Cid in Puerto Morelos. Here is my review:
* The food options were terrific especially given this is an all inclusive resort. We were able to eat at almost all the restaurants.
* The pool was quite the hub activity even with the constant rain we had this week. There were also activities in other parts of the resort which kept kids busy.
* The staff was excellent. Our butler (Indira) was very communicative and became part of our family during the week. She speaks Spanish (of course) and English, and was able to make recommendations about what to do and helped us set up our dinner reservations. Miguel, part of the staff at the Mercado at Delores, was very kind to me and my family. He was super.
* The room we stayed in was a bit musty and the A/C did not work as well as some may have hoped. We were used to this, having stayed at other similar all-inclusives in the the Cancun area.
* I recommend bringing 100+ single dollars for tipping. I tipped at dinner, for our butler, for room service, coffee, etc., and it adds up fast. ATM fees here are $7.95 so bring cash!!! Tips in US$ are fine, and exchanging for pesos will be expensive.
* I recommend visiting the Puerto Morales town via the El Cid's morning bike tour. It's a great way to see the town, but expect to be solicited a bit from the local store owners. It's better than most other tourist places like Puerto Vallerta, but can be annoying to someone expecting peace and a casual walk.
*. If it's raining, as the front desk for a white umbrella. They were free for us (not sure if this was because we were part of the platinum club).
*. If you are looking to get out, I recommend scheduling a tour by visiting the "I love Puerto Morelos Tour" shop in the downtown area (they are on FB too). They will give you a good price on a tour of ChiChinitzen, etc. Frank helped us, who was great.
