We stayed 9 nights at the X10, 2 adults and 2 children aged 3 & 6. We stayed in a 2 bed family suite and had a wonderful holiday, pretty much faultless.

Rooms:
spacious, clean, lots of wonderful little touches like kids dressing gowns, bunk beds, toy story wall paper, low sink for kids, cookies and milk at turndown, lovely toiletries by Elle Spa, regularly replaced beach towels, flip flops, pillow menu, comfy beds

pools:
clean, plenty of pools, naturally warm, not busy (always able to get a sun lounger), 1 adults only pool meaning that we weren't worried about the kids annoying the adults, great slide, water park for little kids

beach:
plenty of sun loungers, generally clean

kids club:
absolutely amazing! Great activity list including a wonderful Halloween party for the kids, face painting and lots of new games. Wonderful, welcoming staff who treated the children like a member of the family- especially Lynne, Tik and Manuel. there was a French animation team too in the 2nd week (Jet Tours) who were also very inclusive even though they were there for the French tourists. Pools open 8-8

Other activities:
only used the gym- well equipped and maintained

Food:
amazing breakfast, especially the juice machine where you can make any juice with the fresh fruit on offer. Large spread of western and eastern (noodles, fresh dim sum, curries). We only had a couple of meals in the hotel and mainly went to the strip for dinner. WHat we tried was good but tailored to western tastes. Free popcorn and soft drinks for the kids at 3-5pm was enjoyed by our 2!

Staff:
incredibly welcoming and helpful. In addition to the kids club staff already mentioned, Gift was lovely in the restaurant

Overall- an wonderful place for a family to stay and can't wait to go back.

ROOM

We stayed in a Family Suite in the Beach wing. The room was spacious and the kids’ room was very large and separated from ours with a sliding door. Our oldest loved the bunk bed and the resort organised a cot for our youngest. The cot was there and set up by the time we arrived. There is also a TV and separate air conditioner in the kids’ room along with a couple of bean bags and table and chairs (as can be seen on the resort’s website).

The housekeeping standard was excellent. Our room was always very well cleaned and the turndown service included cookies and milk for the kids.

POOLS

There are many pools available from a shallow toddler one (0.45 m depth, from memory) to deeper pools with a slide and an adults’ pools where no one under 16 years of age is allowed. The pools are surrounded by pool chairs and have an umbrella to share between two chairs.

The slide in the main pool was a hit with our kids. There was a resident lizard in the ‘garden island’ in the middle of this pool which made an appearance a couple of times a day.

From about 11 or 12 onwards, there is pool side service for drinks and food and we used this quite a few times. It was great to be able to slip into the pool to cool down in between bites and sips.

FOOD

A note regarding food allergies. They take food allergies very seriously and ask that you notify staff if you have any. Our youngest has severe allergies so this was very comforting for us and a must when we were researching resorts. The wait staff were understanding of allergies and the kitchen was specifically advised each time we ordered food. This allowed us to dine with confidence.

Convenience store:
The onsite convenience store is apparently run independently of the resort so you won’t be able to charge purchases to your room unlike everywhere else. They stock water bottles, soft drinks, snacks, pool toys, and tourist trinkets.

Main Restaurant:
This is where the action is found - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We found the menu to be varied enough to have most of our meals there. The Thai dishes are cheap (around 150 BHT) but the Western dishes are generally more expensive. Personally, we preferred the Thai dishes anyway and there were many to choose from.

Seaside Restaurant:
This one, as the name suggests, is near the beach. We went here several nights for dinner. If you like seafood, head over to this one. We found it very quiet and, on some nights, we were the only ones there. Granted, we were also dining at ‘family time’ i.e. early.

Room Service:
We arrived late on our first night so ordered room service. It arrived quickly and the menu is fairly typical fare for a service available 24/7. There is a charge if your order is less than a certain amount.

KIDS

This is mostly a general comment regarding Thai people but it was clearly evident at X10 Khao Lak. We’d heard that the Thai people loved kids from others who had been to Thailand, however, we had no idea how true this was. We are used to trying to keep our children quiet and out of the way wherever we go in Australia in order to not annoy others. With this mindset, we were not prepared for how friendly the Thai people are and how they pay particular attention to children.

For example, at Phuket airport we were sitting in a dead end corner trying to stay out of the way as we waited for our flight. A security guard in uniform and black boots came by to check an emergency exit which had been left open. Our pram containing our grumpy one year old was next to the door but not in front of it. Here is where our expectations diverged with reality. He practically ignored us and smiled (yes, smiled) at our son. Where I’m from, security guards don’t smile at anyone. In Australia, I expect a dour look at best and an annoyed comment or look in our direction for inconveniencing the guard by making him take an extra four steps to get to the door. That’s just one example but it stood out in my mind.

We had a similar experience when going through security and customs. The kids got all of the attention and high fives in Phuket. But, never fear, once we returned to Australia, normal operation was resumed and we all received, at best, bureaucratic disinterest. Oh, and the kids definitely weren’t noticed unless they made a peep.

And, ditto again, while walking around in town and at the market. Back to the X10 resort. All staff, from the housekeepers to restaurant staff, were always showing an interest in the kids and were very accommodating and not put out by children not (gasp) being like little adults.

ACTIVITIES/SERVICES

Sun Spa:
The spa treatments were 50% off when we went so, while not as cheap as you might have expected, were decently priced. We had several hour-long massages and found their professionalism and skill excellent.

Zumba
There was a daily instructor-led Zumba routine in the pool with music.

Kids Playground/Babysitting
A dedicated playground building exists where children can play with toys and participate in activities. They also offer babysitting but we didn’t use it on this trip.

SURROUNDS

Leaving the resort property, you can turn either left or right upon reaching the main road. Both directions have shops, restaurants, and markets to browse. We saw many walking these routes but the resort also has regular shuttles to take you in either direction.

Bang Niang market was our favourite. It’s on the northern side of the resort only about 3 minutes in a taxi.

A quick note on taxis in case you haven’t been to Thailand before (as we hadn’t): they are basically a ute (Aussie for ‘sedan with a tray on the back’) with bench seats along the covered tray. The OHS police haven’t reached Thailand so there is no gate or seatbelts and you are left to take responsibility for how and where you sit. They don’t go very fast on shorter trips, about 50 kph, so we didn’t feel unsafe on them.

We greatly enjoyed our time at X10 Khao Lak and were already planning on going back only two days in to our holiday.

Room tip: Closer to the beach will be quieter as it's further from the family wings and pools

Had the most amazing time at X10, and would highly recommend the resort if anyone is considering holidaying in Khao Lak.
The room we had was spacious, very well appointed, and catered to all of our needs. The hotel is very family friendly, in that it provides plenty of options for those travelling with young children, and it’s also super close to Khao Lak if you want to try the local restaurants and markets (I’d also recommend Bangniang market, just a short taxi ride away).
The staff match the quality of the hotel by providing an excellent quality of service from start to finish. Janina especially requires singling out for the quality of how she handled a couple of our many family/child/tourist related problems/crises professionally and with friendliness.
Thank you for our stay, X10. See you and the team again soon.

We stayed at this resort through a Jetstar holiday package, and really did not know what to expect. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful, and our room was enormous. The whole resort is well maintained, with beautiful gardens and pools. An extra bonus was an unexpected cake and drinks delivered to our room to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we had not mentioned that to the staff. Lots of lovely little touches, like free coffee machines and cold water available whenever you wanted it. Also, just a short walk, 15 minutes max, to the town.

Room tip: We were on third floor (with lift) and views over the pool were great.
