Three for lunch very much off main season on the island. Received enthusiastically in spite of late arrival. Well decorated room with brilliant sea view. Simple menu which gives little indication of the delights to follow! Antipasti di mare, prawns in cognac, calamari and gamberoni grigliate, fritto misto and scaloppine di vitello al limone all elaborate and outstanding. Very good Elba bianco from Arrighi. Family run, Grandpa in the kitchen, son and daughter-in-law in front, two charming children in evidence. Very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Both the hotel and the restaurant finally [yes!] got a badly needed facelift [it almost hurt my eyes so bright the restaurant has been painted!] now that George [the main waiter] more and more runs the family joint... [Message for George: get rid of these paper napkins!]

Still, the best here is Enzo, the man in charge in the kitchen!! Try his Spaghetti L'Ogliera, the risotto with shellfish, big grilled prawns [albeit from the freezer], or the fantastic Creme Catalana [home-made] if and when you still have room left in your belly! At times the TV is blaring away far too loud at the front of the restaurant....

As for the rooms in the albergo, they are certainly not soundproof!! Oh well...

I have been staying at this hotel for 10 years or more. The food at the restorant is always exc, and considering the HB prices they charge it is very, very hard to beat. The hotel is clean but basic but the rooms have air conditioning [and some a balcony] and unlike some other hotels on elba it always works!
