We have been returning to this gorgeous independent hostel at least once a year for well over 10 years, and are happy to sleep in bunk beds and to share a washroom , because it’s in such an idyllic part of the Lakes, staff are so friendly and professional , it’s warm and comfortable and breakfasts are great! If you want to be in the most beautiful part of England, and escape the hordes of tourists, this is the ideal place to stay, and much cheaper than hotels, better value than B & B’s. My only reluctance in encouraging others to visit this gem of a hostel, is there might not be a space for me next time!

Went on a trip here as part of a friend's birthday - the staff were great and very helpful and the place itself is great. The hostel is close to the Brittania pub which was a bonus! The self-catering kitchen was really well stocked and had plenty of space for storing food. The drying room was a definite plus point as well, you really need one with the Lakeland weather! Would definitely come back!!

Thanks for the great review

Indeed... after a scorching summer, everything has returned to 'normal' and the drying room is in regular use again!

Cheers

I had a lovely stay here. Everything was clean and tidy, the staff were helpful and the food was rather excellent. It was also pretty reasonably priced for this part of the Lake District, especially since it's in such a good location with regards to decent walks, as well as the museums in Grasmere and Coniston.

I really enjoyed staying here. The staff were really friendly and the facilities were fantastic. The breakfast is very good too if you’re trying to decide whether to go for it!

There is no parking so you have to find somewhere in the village, which is easy (although the national trust car park makes it sound like you shouldn’t park overnight!)
You are a few minutes walk from the pub and the surroundings are beautiful. Thank you for a good stay!

Stayed in this clean friendly and hospital hostel a couple of times in the last year.
Clean and tidy rooms, great drying room for any wet gear. Staff are really friendly helpful and approachable nothing is too much trouble.
We really enjoyed our breakfasts and evening meals
Free tea and coffee at any time

Room tip: Book early to avoid disappointment
