“Incredible wedding weekend”
Reviewed 14 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We booked the full site at Cwmhir Court (Great Hay Barn, Medieval Barn, 2 x silos plus the Groom's Cottage) for 3 nights to accommodate our wedding guests (and celebrate our nuptuals!). We searched high and low for a venue that would wow our guests, sleep everyone on site and also enable us to eat together without having to go elsewhere...we loved Cwmhir Court when we saw it, and knew our guests would too!

But even we were blown away at how incredible our weekend was. Will the housekeeper couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful; from the local lady we got recommended for doing our wedding breakfast catering (and brunch the following morning!), to the local baked bread to order, to the lady who dropped round 2 jars of honey from her bees down the road, to the recommended local hairdresser...the surprises just kept coming!

Guests with children who were due to leave for home on Sunday for school on Monday all developed mysterious "car troubles" which "forced" them to stay an extra night - testament to what an amazing time everyone had. Having been home a couple of days, we're now even receiving thank you cards in the post from our guests for organising the weekend...pretty sure it should be the other way round, with us thanking them for their gifts!! They're even trying to get us to arrange a reunion for next year - with most of our guests not knowing each other before this weekend, that's pretty amazing and really sums up how fantastic it all was.

We shall most definitely be returning to Cwmhir Court...absolutely stunning setting, with a team of staff who are completely dedicated to making your stay enjoyable and really do go above and beyond. Quality accommodation and a stone's throw from the gorgeous Hay on Wye...couldn't ask for any more!

“Surprise from Nephew for family”
Reviewed 15 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Just spent 4 glorious nights at this amazing barn courtesy of our nephew Chris for his family. It was everything and more than we could have anticipated. Wonderful views, exceptionally equipped, and great weather!!! We had two wonderful walks in stunning countryside.
Its a great place for large groups without feeling overcrowded and would recommend it to anyone and there is plenty of room for children to run around.

“A truly Great Hay Barn”
Reviewed 9 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Our reservation of The Great Hay Barn and several related buildings for our 50th Anniversary proved to be a very wise choice and rewarding experience. The properties are beautifully place in the undulating countryside around Clyro and on the opposite side of the river to Hay on Wye. The Great Hay Barn is very spacious and a family of 12 is easily dispersed and catered for. The same applies to the wonderful Medieval Barn which is perfect for dinners of upto 30+. Add to these buiding the Grooms Cottage and the two excellent silos and the accomodation of a very large family or group of friends is truly first class. The overall impact is of a tiny village in a near perfect setting

“Comfortable accomodation in a sympathetic quality barn conversion”
Reviewed 31 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

The Great Barn is a comfortable well specified barn conversion on the Clyro Court estate about a mile north of the old town of Hay-on-Wye. It has six double rooms one of which has an en-suite bathroom and another a four poster bed. There three shared bathrooms between the remaining rooms.

Three of the bedrooms are adjacent the shared bathrooms with the remaining two rooms a few flights of stairs away. We found the stairs quite steep and difficult to navigate - especially for night visits to the bathroom - so if you have any mobility problems you should definitely take one of the rooms adjacent the bathrooms.

There's a superb well-equipped kitchen and breakfast area which easily accommodates 16 people.

The long, almost baronial dining room on seats at least 24 people and has a piano and an IPod dock. There is a comfortable lounging and reading area adjacent the dining hall and a superb and relaxing lounge on the mezzanine floor above the hall with a large TV and DVD player

Towels and bedding are provided. Check in - for a week long stay - 4pm on Friday and you will be asked to vacate your rooms by 10am the following Friday.

I stayed there in August with a group of friends from university and it was a superb and relaxing venue.

With the single exception of the mean-spirited unpleasant little man who took such obvious delight in telling us off for walking on the old road adjacent the barn everyone in Hay-on-Wye was friendly and helpful. The old town is delightful and full of superb book shops like the Murder, Mystery and Mayhem shop and wonderful little cafes like Shepperd's Ice Cream Cafe. There's a market ton a Thursday where we found the superb Method Roastery selling their coffee.

The Barn is about a mile north of Hay-on-Wye and while it's possible to walk there the usual route is along a twisting fast road where drivers pay little attention to walkers. There are other routes but they are considerably longer.

“Fantastic for family get togethers”
Reviewed 18 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We booked this place as a surpise for my Dad's 60th Birthday. We stayed as a large family group but really the property lends itself to any occasion. The property is stunning, sympathetically restored and clean. The housekeepers were charming, professional and extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble. In fact right from the start the owners were helpful, we had a few members of group who had disability requirements and the owners made sure they were accommodated for. We had an absolutely amazing time in an amazing location. The property is done to a high standard with luxury finishes, it made for a truely wonderful break! The only small thing was it took 4 weeks to get our deposit back, but the communication with the owners about this was very good.
