“Fascinating Roman Villa, and more”

Parco Archeologico di Suasa
Reviewed 1 October 2017

An extraordinary site, in the Italian Marche, with a huge senatorial dwelling alongside some slightly less impressive vestiges of the forum and an amphitheatre. The villa tells an amazing story of gradually increasingly powerful family, extending their dwelling to match their influence. Very interesting indeed. Opening times are a bit erratic – make sure you check them first.

Fascinating to see this Roman villa and town being revealed. We were given an excellent tour. Many of the mosaic floors are in good condition - one is particularly grand and made from coloured marble. The amphitheatre is also used for concerts etc

The main excavation is of a villa, with some very interesting and unusual mosaics. The tour explains how the villa changed, grew, and shrank again over the centuries. There is also the excavation of a Roman road and a forum on the other side of the road, and there is also a small amphitheater.
