Amazing place for photography. Full of snow clad mountains surrounding you. Very easy and short walk to the point.

The main attraction in Sonamarg. Beauty of this place is a feast to the eyes and sole I took a pony to reach the point from parking area but, a walk uphill is highly recommended. There is no other place on earth like this. .

One of the best places to visit in Sonamarg- Hire a Pony as the Glacier may be diffucult to reach- the rates for the pony is standard 350 for first hour and Rs 250 for every additional hour- negotiate for this rate- also there may be people offering you sledge and skiing- politely refuse them as its not worth spending money. Spend lot of time on the Glacier and great opportunity for wonderful photo shoots- you can spend atleast half a day on the Glacier

Don't be fooled by pony walas or your driver by paying 3-5 times extra. They will not let you negotiate with other pony walas by telling a lie about so called 'number system'. There is no such thing that only one assigned pony wala can take you. Just walk around and stick to your price. Genuine price is 600-800 per person.
However, its best to go by foot. It takes around 60-80 min. Pony ride will take around 45 min. We went both by pony ride and by foot on the next day. We enjoyed the best by walk.

1. if you are into animal right, please have a brave heart. the horses use for the ride look not very well taken care of. the surrounding herds are full of dunk.
2. The ride took probably 10 minits, to nearest stop, the view on the way there was really great, the snow by the roadside during my visit was about 3 metres tall, cringe..
3. there are stall offering good saffron tea by the river for good rupee, its a good thing to have during the weather.
4. the trip cost abt 800rupee per horse after haggle. Tips are around 1000rupee.
5. There are many restaurant offering good food and tea near the herd.
