“Unexpected mid-morning concert”

Mid morning we started out and heard music from the church. An organist and trumpet player were rehearsing for a concert in 2 days and we were able to hear bits of a Bach concerto that sent our hearts soaring. The women who manned the gift area were really helpful and the church was quite well kept and full of presence. We count it as one of the little 'presents' we were given on this trip to have dropped in here.

The ceiling of this church is adorned with the most amazing murals. They usually have mirrors to help you view in detail without having to strain your neck. When you've finished being amazed by the ceiling, take a look at the stones on the floor. There are numerous engravings to commemorate those buried under the church, but what is really interesting are the pictograms. I have NO idea what they represent, but I've never seen anything like it anywhere.

This church has a restored wooden ceiling with very nice paintings. Sit down and use a mirror to study the colorful paintings without getting neck pain. It is also possible to visit the tower, which gives a great view of the fortress of Naarden.

Famous for its annual Matthäus Passion is this monumental big town church which history goes back to 1350 when the first church was built, enlarged in 1455. Its wooden ceiling is covered by the most amazing paintings. It is great to climb the tower and have a view till the city of Utrecht. Its for hire for annual photo expositions, such as World Press Photo, and for more intimate parties as weddings, receptions and concerts.
