A wonderful private tour with Antonio. It's a little way to walk out to Williams and Humbert but... read more
The equestrian show was beautiful - such training and skill are demonstrated. Then a interesting tour of their warehouse, filled with thousands of barrels, which gave me a greater appreciation of the process of making a fine liquor. Then there is the sampling of three of their fine wines to taste and enjoy. Finally, the opportunity to visit their store and browse and purchase some of their products. Very enjoyable.
We were in a small group of 6 (4 English speakers in our party + 2 english speaking Germans). The first thing we saw was the equestrian display, 2 beautiful horses demonstrating dressage skills. Not only was it lovely to watch, the show lasted exactly the right amount of time.
Following the horses, we were taken for a tour around the bodega where Eva our guide explained to us the process of making sherry. Eva was excellent, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable with excellent English and fluent German (making us feel quite inadequate). I learnt plenty that I didn't know, and Eva was happy to answer any questions we had.
The tasting was at the end when we were given 3 wines to taste - Fino, Dry Sack and Canasta...and here's the good bit, after talking us through each wine, where we tasted and discussed each glass... they left the bottles on the table for us to help ourselves!
Having polished off the bottle of Dry Sack (my personal favourite), we departed feeling very relaxed and ready to stroll the streets of Jerez.
This huge warehouse with 50,000 barrels of wines and liqueurs is well worth a visit. Book a visit with a guide to get the best out of it.
Second biggest in Europe I believe.
Sample 3 wines at your leisure, and try some more in the shop.
I bought a caramel whisky...fantastic. Then realised I couldn't take it back in cabin luggage.
There is a brief horse show which was quite good, hence only 4 star rating for me.
Overall though a good experience.
The Williams and Humbert bodega is huge, barrels of sherry stretch in all directions in the cooll sandy floored warehouse. The guides explian everything you need or want to know about the process of making sherry and at the end there is a pleasant tasting session to warm you up for the shop! The only thing we were a little disappointed with was the equestrian show which consisted of a couple of short sessions of dressage, not exactly gripping, but no doubt quite clever.
Nice bodega. We enjoyed visiting the Winehouse ! Wondefull. Concerning the dîner, it was good but can ne better. Whatever we j'ai good time.
What a lovely Bodega they have here - full of lovely barrels of Sherry (and other wines and spirits). The tour goes through the history of sherry and the company's development, with some nice artefacts - a vintage car once used by the Williams and Humbert family (apparently exchanged for a couple of barrels of their famous sherry) and photos of some famous people, who have scribed their names onto the barrel ends, including four guys called John, Paul, George and Ringo (famously known as the Beatles) and also some kings, queens and other royals. You also can have a conducted tasting and buy souvenirs in their shop. Much the same as the other bodegas in town but with its own idiosyncracies and traditions. Well worth the time to visit.
