Reviewed 30 August 2017

We stayed here for 5 days, in the penultimate week in August.

Upon arrival, about 4pm, the Masseria looks fantastic, safely enclosed in its personal security gates.
As you look around you can't help but admire the beauty of the olive grove within the confines of the area. It is well maintained and certainly is a source of pride for the owners.

We met Maria, lovely lady who will do all she can to help you, and she showed us to our room. She pointed out to us that the toilet seat was broken, this was quite disappointing that we were put in a room with a broken toilet seat to begin with, and stated that it would be fixed very soon. We assumed that day, we were wrong!

The room had no toiletries, something we had expected as part of course from even the loweliest of hotels and B&B's. I asked for some, we received some packets of showergel and a packet of soap. Which is fine by us, But I did expect more refinery from the Masseria.

Maria, helped us book a restaurant for the night as we were informed that the Masseria's chef was ill that week and their restaurant was closed for the week. I hope that no-one was booked on for the full board accommodation.

After our meal, we returned to our room and found it to be like an oven. It was incredibly warm and the AC which had been on since we had left was completely inadequate with its job. It had been mid 30's on this day so was hot, but nothing more than average. The only way to get in touch with anyone was to send an email, which we did complaining about the fact the AC was not working and the toilet seat being broken.

The next day Maria, told us she would be sorting this for us, and after our day of exploring the local regions we came back to a fixed toilet seat had been fixed and the AC was now a very slight improvement, The AC units do not have a powerful enough output to cool the room, ours was set to 10, and we were sleeping in top of the sheet.

The room also had quite a musty smell, this was due to the bathroom being a wet room, and the stone within never having the chance to dry. The shower was ill fitted and leaked from numerous places, meaning it was not the strongest of jets. However the Water was always hot.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, we asked for an extra pillow and that was no problem whatsoever.

The pool is nice, however it really needs some form of shade to be provided. Not all of us are used to sitting in the direct mid 30 sun! The pool really needs to some maintenance doing on it, quite a few tiles are missing on the entry steps, the 'showers' are now a storage area for buckets and wipes and it's hard to tell the last time they were used. The Loungers are worn and some need some urgent repair work, to hide the nails sticking out. The mattresses are stained and a bit smelly, as the Masseria will not loan out towels for the beds, and if you're like us doing a lot of traveling thats a weight you wont be carrying as most hotels provide them.

The breakfast has plus and negatives. On the negatives the juice is like a syrup and is not very palatable, there is no option for any hot food of any kind (though this may be because the chef was ill!), the fruit wasnt very appealing, and the milk was served room temperature for the cereal...neither warm or cold.
On the Plus points there were at least 4 or 5 fresh cakes for breakfast, each very tasty (i'm just not a cake person for breakfast), make your own bruschetta ingredients and they will make you any form of coffee you want.
On a personal level, I found the breakfast to be lacking, and disappointing.

The location of the Masseria was great, you have easy access to the beach and to lots of very local cities, Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Alberobello, Ostuni, Castellana Grotte, Monoploi and many more.
