Stayed two nights in this hotel, told to be the oldest in town. Very local and traditional in style, except for staff where all were foreigners - and friendly :-). Rooms ok, spacious but not to exclusive. Good breakfast with nice view of Geilo. Location in walking distance to city centre. What more to say? Not sure.

Nice hotel, close to Geilo’s train station.
Close to many stores, restaurants, coffee bars, etc.
Close to the ski slope, and to the bus that goes from one side to the other (between both slopes).
It is an old traditional building, but in a perfect condition.
Nice place to go with family and friends.

We were in Geilo for cross country skiing. The hotel was well situated for that purpose as there were tracks within a short walking distance - and in an easy spot to take the car for tracks further in the mountains. The situation would by the way have been good also for alpine skiers.

The hotel was also in a peaceful spot a couple of hundreds of meters from the ”city center” (then again this is a tranquil town as such). It was also convenient that the restaurants were close enough and within very easy reach by walking. The hotel had ample free parking.

The room was clean and beds comfortable. Even though they had renovated the room lately, it was still rather basic. In a hotel of this kind it would be good to have in rooms drying cupboards for sports clothes.

The breakfast was good and the view from the restaurant beautiful.

Went for a short ski holiday in Feb 2018 - Wed to Wed at the end of the local Norwegian school holidays. Had previously stayed at the same hotel 25+ years ago and found it still very good and conveniently located for the slopes. One slope and lifts just across the road and two further a short ten minute free shuttle-bus ride away.
Good simple rooms which are being progressively upgraded, a large dining room, small cosy bar and several guest lounge areas - one with an open log fire. There is also a sauna and steam room available after 4pm and a fitness room open 24hrs. Sadly previous guests had damaged the fitness equipment and not reported it, so it was largely not useable.
We stayed on half-board basis, and breakfast and dinner were buffet style with plenty of choice for all tastes and requirements - however, on the Sunday when most of the guests had departed, the dinner menu became a single fixed menu without choice, though with some limited flexibility for dietary requirements. We felt a limited menu with choice as you would find in a small restaurant would have been a much better idea. The few restaurants in town do it, so the hotel should be able to manage it too. We did feel this variation should have been made clear in the hotel terms at the point of booking.
There was also a problem with the hot water system being overwhelmed when the hotel was full, and a hot shower was impossible after about 5pm after all the families came back from a day's skiing. No problem when guest numbers were lower.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the manager was comfortable in negotiating a price adjustment for the evening meals not taken and the lack of hot water on two days.
However, we enjoyed the experience and would be happy to return, and even to recommend the hotel to others - with the caveat that people should be made aware of the dinner menu restriction when guest numbers are low.

Room Tip: Go look at the rooms and check that any door slamming won't disturb you .

We stayed in a double room with view, we had 2 single beds pushed together but nevertheless they were comfy and we had a great view of Vestila. The mattresses could have benefited from a mattress cover as the sheets were not always put on well.
The hotel's location is perfect for the ski bus, Geiloheisen chair lift and a wander into town. The parking is free but limited.
The breakfast offered a great selection despite having a very long queue for the waffle machine (maybe buy an extra?). Evening meal on the other hand was very unimaginative and not warm. We had to book a table despite it being a buffet and we had the same soup all week as well as being served the same chicken 4 times. The dessert was the best part.
All in all the hotel was a good base for us for our holiday, it was comfortable, warm and the staff were friendly.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the left hand side of the hotel, away from the train line
