good hotel a couple of minutes by tram to the city center

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Nov 2019
This hotel has a good location. With a tram next door, with direct connection to Bordeaux city center, you are in less than 10 minutes at gare de Bordeaux Saint-Jean.

Rooms are good, clean, it is possible to stream your mobile phone to the TV. Breakfast is basic but good.

We thought the hotel was great. Modern, clean and close to transport links. The breakfast was basic but good and the air conditioning in the room was superb. Staff really helpful. Its proximity to gare st Jean was a real bonus because one day we took the train to Arcachon and Dune du pilat.

Bordeaux can be expensive - we were in the area visiting family so we only needed one night prior to getting on an early morning train to Paris. I thought €159 would secure a reasonable hotel for hubby and I and I booked through their website as all the typical were asking a few Euro more.

Ultimately, you should spend a bit more and get a real hotel room, even if for one night. There is no staff late at night. The bed is horrible at best - a foam single mattress on a board - the pillows are the cheapest quality, there is only one sheet on the mattress between you and whatever is on there, and the duvet does not fit into the cover properly and is fiberfill. Two people in the same bed struggle to keep covered.

There are temperature controls on the wall but they do not appear to work - the room was stuffy and overly warm all night.

All this added up to a terrible night's sleep. The only saving grace to this place are the friendly staff and fairly decent breakfast for €7 pp starting at 5:30 am.

Finally, the "closeness" to Gare St. Jean train station is misrepresented. It is not a simple jaunt - we had to take several turns and bends and walk for nearly 10 minutes to reach the station. Beware anyone with anything other than a backpack as you have no surfaces for rolling suitcases for the first third of the walk.

Unfortunately, calling this a budget hotel is generous. My bed was more comfortable in university residence 35 years ago. Save yourself and apply the €159 to a better hotel.

Greeted by friendly staff, we enjoyed our little room with twin beds. Air conditioned, quiet. Reception gave us a map & being first timers recommended the area to look for our evening meal. The Light rail/tram is conveniently located just outside the hotel. Reception also provides tickets for this as well. Within the same area, there is a cafe/car, and good sized convenience store. Very good would stay again.
One negative for us - no tea/coffee making facilities.

First of all - be aware what you are booking. This is a budget hotel along the lines of a UK Travelodge.
Once you understand that – this is well worth considering.
The only real downside is that the rooms are very small. That said they are really clean, the daily service is good and the bathroom (although also small but very clean) has a powerful rainfall shower. Very friendly and helpful staff who will do their best to help.
Although not right in the centre of town, the regular trams stop literally right outside the front entrance and will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go in Bordeaux. There are various ticket options available but an unlimited day pass is under 5 Euros (Aug 18). This also means it’s so easy to get to from the airport and railway station. From the station take the “C” line 3 stops to Terres Neuves. Get off the tram and the hotel is right in front of you. We found it to be an ideal location for the price.
There is a large supermarket, bakery and a couple of bars just outside of the door but beware of limited Sunday and Monday opening times.
We had not stayed at a B&B hotel before but will certainly consider them as a good option in the future.
were we to return to Bordeaux - we would stay here again..

Room tip: Best views from the front but noise from trams might be an issue

Basic but clean and modern hotel. They have a garage for your car if you pay extra. It is near the tram stop for easy access to the centre of Bordeaux. Good value stay and breakfast. Not much in the surrounding area.
