Bordeaux can be expensive - we were in the area visiting family so we only needed one night prior to getting on an early morning train to Paris. I thought €159 would secure a reasonable hotel for hubby and I and I booked through their website as all the typical were asking a few Euro more.
Ultimately, you should spend a bit more and get a real hotel room, even if for one night. There is no staff late at night. The bed is horrible at best - a foam single mattress on a board - the pillows are the cheapest quality, there is only one sheet on the mattress between you and whatever is on there, and the duvet does not fit into the cover properly and is fiberfill. Two people in the same bed struggle to keep covered.
There are temperature controls on the wall but they do not appear to work - the room was stuffy and overly warm all night.
All this added up to a terrible night's sleep. The only saving grace to this place are the friendly staff and fairly decent breakfast for €7 pp starting at 5:30 am.
Finally, the "closeness" to Gare St. Jean train station is misrepresented. It is not a simple jaunt - we had to take several turns and bends and walk for nearly 10 minutes to reach the station. Beware anyone with anything other than a backpack as you have no surfaces for rolling suitcases for the first third of the walk.
Unfortunately, calling this a budget hotel is generous. My bed was more comfortable in university residence 35 years ago. Save yourself and apply the €159 to a better hotel.
