La Cle Des Champs is a lovely house, set at the end of a quiet lane very near to the centre of Ervy le Chatel. The pictures don’t do the house justice – it is much bigger than we expected it to be. We spent a lot of time sitting on the terrace off the living room, looking out at the well-kept gardens and just enjoying the peace and tranquillity. There are fruit trees in the garden and we were made welcome to help ourselves to produce.
The house is well equipped and comfortable with the kitchen having everything you need to cook, if you wish to do so (we cooked each night).
The house is well located. Ervy has all you need - a bakery / patisserie, a small convenience store, a bar and restaurant. About a 1 km walk in the other direction takes you to a very well equipped supermarket – we left the car behind and walked up there each day.
There is a market in the village on Fridays and it was great to see all of the fresh produce and mingle with other people from the village.
So, as you can tell we loved the house and location but what actually made the holiday for us was the kindness and helpfulness of the owner’s father, who lives next door. He was never intrusive but on hand if we had any questions. At one point we went to visit him in one of his gardens (where he was growing vegetables), just to have a chat. He made us very welcome indeed. We will definitely be returning to this house in the future.
