This is a very famous holy place in Maha Sarakham. The stupa is very large and has a picturesque park in front of it. There are skirts you can use to cover yourself provided at the enternece of the temple if you are wearing shorts.

A trek from Khon Kaen but worth it. Hardly anyone about, not too hot, perfect for looking around. I took pleasure in banging as many gongs as I could, supposedly to bring good luck by waking the spirits. The spire had a gold cloth (as shown in the photo) which was being raised during the visit.

In the centre of Na Dun stands stupa that is worth visiting. Large in its kind, covered with coloured cloth. Each Center of a wall of the base of the stipa has a Buddha statue in a different position. Locals pay merits by praying at each statue and offer flowers and incense sticks. The story tells of a farmer that was working his field before seeding and found a small stupa that was covered with gems. Inside a fragment of a bone...believed to be of Buddha. The local government decided to erect the large stupa to cover the artefacts.

This temple is said to be dated from some time around the 9th century. It is beutiful, and a good place to visit. Avoid major festive days, as it can get very crowded. The park next door is used as a back-drop for photoshoots - very interesting to do some people watching.
