Just got back from a dream holiday on Kangaroo Island.
Eleanor Ridge homestead was a very major contributor to the amazing time we had.
Over 2kms from the main road meant that we had tranquility and didn't hear another car on the road for the 7 days we were there. We could have spent the whole time in this beautiful place, but being such a central location, we were spoilt with the luxury of many short drives to some of the most amazing spots on the island.
Having kangaroos on our doorstep morning and night was a major thrill and one we never took for granted. We also saw a couple of wedge-tailed eagles along the driveway to the house which were spectacular. We were treated on the second night with a walk to the property creek by Graeme the owner who showed us all the abundant population of marron in the stream.
We found both Graeme and Kathy to be extremely helpful and generous but also respectful in giving us the space to make the homestead our home for the week. It really did feel like home for us too.
So many lovely things to say about the place. We are already missing sitting on the front porch enjoying incredible sunsets, animal interactions and just revelling in the space and tranquility of this beautiful country setting.
Where else do you have Kangaroos sitting around your family every evening with no one else around beside the Echidnae in the surrounding forrest and we even had three Koalas sitting in the sugar gum tree next to the cute house one day!
This is where australian wildlife dreams come true - don ' t miss!
We were do we start. This place is a dream. Chippy and Cathy the hosts could not be better. The cabin, which Chippy built with his own hands is very well fitted and very cosy, all mods and cons included.
I saw more native wild life in one week up and close than I have seen in many years. We went marron fishing with the hosts, BBQ them !!!!awsommme.Kangaroos are every where. Don,t drive the hire car after sun set or before sun rise. Dont!!!
There were Koalas just of the back porch.Look at the photo,s.The cabin is a good 45 min drive from town. However its very private and very special. For real peace and tranquility you will be hard pressed to find better. The stars at night for Europeans are a real treat.
We weren't certain what to expect as we traveled through the remote regions of Kangaroo Island to get to the Eleanor River Homestead but were certainly delighted with the accommodations when we arrived. The cabin was first class - all of the comforts of home, a well stocked fridge, and the vistas provided from the wrap-around porch were awesome. Centrally located on the island, we were easily able to do comfortable day trips to the top tourist sites, like Admiral's Arch and Remarkable Rocks. We were literally surrounded by kangaroos at the homestead and could feed them by hand and delighted in seeing our first echidnas. A great taste of an authentic island experience.

We enjoyed 3 blissful nights at Eleanor River Homestead in December 2013. The home is impeccably appointed and very comfortable. We felt little need to leave the property; it was completely private with the exception of dozens of kangaroos who visited morning and evening. We did go to the beach and a winery, all within 15 minutes of the property. We wish that we could have stayed longer.
