OK for one night stay

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Jun 2017
Suite Home Briancon Serre-Chevalier was OK as a value lodging near Briancon. We travelled off-ski season, and many of the hotels were already closed for the summer. The price was reasonable. The décor could be described as corporate. It was simple with not many frills. We did enjoy the in-room water pot which allowed for making coffee and tea in the evening and morning. They (strangely) did not offer hand towels and we had to use the bath towels at the sink. We had a sufficient quantity and quality of hot water in the shower. The toilet was not the best at evacuation, but holding down the flusher helped. The only bathroom amenity offered was soap. The mattress was tired. There were only two outlets available in the room, which did not offer much charging capability. The lady at reception had reasonable English, and was helpful. Cleaning was OK, but could be improved. It was quiet, but we stayed in the off-season. There is a grocery store in the same complex as the hotel and a bakery very close. Breakfast is offered at an additional fee. There is an adjacent restaurant, but it was not open. There is lots of free parking outside the hotel. The old town of Briancon is less than a mile away and offers many interesting restaurants. It worked for us, but I would look for a more interesting lodging if we returned.

We stayed her one night on way to Chantemerle and then 2 nights at end of our week skiing. Our first night was in a premier room with great views out across the valley. We went to the bar early evening to wait for friends - the guy on reception also has to man the bar so we ended up getting our own drinks. My son wanted a pizza from the bar menu - our poor chap scrabbled about in the freezer and only had one pizza left, he popped it in the microwave and he was so busy he forgot about it. I ended up cooking and serving it up to my son myself, it cost us 10E !! That aside, the rooms are clean and its a great base if you want a cheap ski trip. There is a small pool which kids love and a sauna (though this wasn't working at any time we visited) and a couple of exercise bikes. It's very laid back, help yourself breakfast, again not manned ;) The hotel is on top of a Geant Supermarket which is convenient and has a huge carpark.

Room tip: Premier room facing the valley are the best and have kitchenettes and separate kids room

The hotel is ok, the price we paid was good for the season (January 2017, but there was no snow). Staff is polite, the receptionnist had taken our reservation, even if the Credit Card we had used was expired. The hotel needs some refreshment, starting from the pool, local areas and finally rooms. I was expecting a little more of the Ibis style.
The position is also fair, there are a supermarket and a few places to eat just around the corner.

Quite large and clean rooms, personnel available and accommodating with families' requests, free parking, free swimming-pool, large supermarket really close. Only downsides: too expensive breakfast (but the supermarket it's almost in the same building!), not close to the centre by foot, rather old furniture (but clean and acceptable).

Generous sized rooms, ours had a kitchenette. Equipped with TV, wifi and air conditioning. Excellent parking area fronting the hotel which also served a shopping mall with supermarket, under the car park.
Good value accommodation but air conditioning in hotel was down on our relatively warm, one night stay which did affect the comfort. No reason given when asked, just an apology that it was down throughout the hotel.
The hotel is just at the edge of new town, hence the good parking. A walk of about 15 minutes gets to the new town with the modern commerce. The historic walled town is further away (perhaps 3 or 4km) but has excellent paid parking and is an easy drive.
